Hello! So the December Posting Meme starts today (you can still request posts here!) with a post about music. radioheadpeter asked for some recs and I couldn't resist making it into a post about some current favorites (it also makes it easier for him to check it and keep it). The post is basically a compilation of some of the artists I listen to these days, some that I've discovered in recent times, some that have been with me for a while. I hope you enjoy. I really love checking out what other people listen to so if there's someone like that out there, hope you discover something new :)
PS. Because there are many songs I wanted to recommend for each artist, for each artist I hid all of the embedded videos but one under spoiler tags. Hopefully that way if you have terrible connection like mine RIGHT THIS MOMENT you can still enjoy the post :)
★ HALESTORM ★
For a while there, before I found the next artist in this list, Halestorm was all I listened to (besides the eventual kpop comeback). I was super obsessed with them. They're my morning music, gym music, badass music. Rock it.
Then Elle came along. I highly recommend checking out LOVE STUFF (her 2015 full album) because I love it all, but these are some of my favorite songs. Unsurprisingly, I love America's Sweetheart and it went straight into my morning playlist.
I follow a few music blogs and I like to open posts at random and try to discover new artists. Kwabs was one of them. I discovered him through WALK when the full album hadn't dropped yet, and recently I went to check and there he was! I am at the early stages of listening and getting an opinion on him, but I love it already.
Changing genres completely... What do you mean traditional Japanese instruments AND rock? Where do I sign up? It makes for a beautiful combination, and the aesthetics of the videos are so beautiful!
BONUS: The album is perfect, just listen to everything. /Raquel off
★ PALOMA FAITH ★
I discovered Paloma Faith quite a while ago the same way I recently discovered Kwabs. I love her voice and I love her retro aesthetics (I kinda love artists who have A Style, like my love for Marina & the diamonds might suggest) and. Well. MOSTLY I AM IN LOVE WITH THE THINGS HER VOICE DOES.
Okay, so I got a little carried away with X JAPAN. X JAPAN is my favorite Japanese group and it's one of the few I dare to recommend people who do not listen to Japanese music at all (or understand the language). It's good ol' rock, and it's good, and these guys were and are AWESOME ROCKERS when on stage, as proved by the fact that all the videos I'm linking are actual performances from The Last Live, their last concert before disbandment back in 1997 (they have reunited).
