Well, I've been in Michigan for six weeks. What have I done? Well, besides seeing quite a gross amount of cornfields, I have been taught how to shoot a rifle. I guess that's a good thing since the house I'm living in at the moment has upwards of thirty guns or so in it. Every corner of the porch, living room, and dining room has a gun or two sitting there. Just as a reference, I shot a Ruger .22 caliber rifle. Quite an experience, let me tell you! I even saved the target because I got myself a bulls eye. *sigh* Life in the country... I don't know what else to say about that but I feel like Lisa from the show Green Acres.
I'm still in a state of limbo. I don't know how to take the fact that people who have the power to help Charles and I are not doing a damn thing to help us. Practically complete strangers are opening their home and offering their help to get us off our feet. People who really have no means to help us or are as stretched out as they can get are offering their home and help to us. Meanwhile, Charles' well-off family members treat us with no respect whatsoever. Hmmm... People are terrible and wonderful at the same time. I am both full of hope and disappointment for the human race.
We've looked at the University of Michigan, Flint for our educational opportunities. It looks like I can try to get into the teacher credentialling program over there. It has a very good reputation. In fact, right before I left Maui, the principal of the school I had my last assignment at said that she would hire anyone who has gone through the Michigan program as they're supposed to be one of the best in the country. She didn't even know I was moving to Michigan. You can bet that I took that info to heart and I'll see about getting back home to Maui one of these days. We have to go and see about University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I still want my graduate degree in Psychology and they're among the top ten in the country in Psych. graduate programs. Maybe being here has some use other than the steady erosion of my soul.
I tried to find my LOTR books in the storage a few days ago but it looks like until we move all that crap out of storage, my yearly reading of the Lord of the Rings will have to take a back seat. You know what's scary about this house? This is a house devoid of books. I think the first book that has stepped into this house was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and I brought that in when I bought it. They have huge book shelves and no books. For goth's sake they're both engineers, they must read something more than magazines and catalogs (in which they have a plethora of). It spooks Charles and me to no end. I hate not having a dictionary on hand, what kind of house has no dictionary? OMG, we need to get out of here! *sigh*
Until then, aloha til later. \m/
