FO: Lothlorien Sweater

Nov 11, 2010 13:38

So, uh, apparently I never did a FO post for this one.  0.o  Go figure, huh?

Anyway!  Yes, I finally finished my Lothlorien sweater!  Pics under the cut, click to embiggen

This sweater was inspired by Lothorien, the forest stronghold of the Elves in Lord of the Rings.  It is much more fitted and sleek than Rivendell; big belled sleeves are not exactly conducive to gliding through underbrush.  The color I chose is "Woodland Heather" and is a beautifully marled silvery-sage green.  Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to photograph correctly.

You want pics?  You got it.

There are rich Celtic-inspired cables:

There are swan heads, arching delicately at the apex:

And, of course, mallorn trees, iconic of the woodland realm:

Identified by silver leaves:

And, like the bracers of the Lothlorien guard, the sleeve falls in a gauntlet-esque point over the back of the hand, silver buttons at the wrist matching the one at the throat:

And, of course, where else would such a sweater make its public debut but at a Renaissance Faire?

The little guy on my shoulder is Kiernan, my young dragon Woodbaby.

SPECS
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft, "Woodland Heather", 3-4 skeins.
Needles: US 5/3.75 mm. (US 9/5.5 mm for suspended bind off on the collar.)
Size: Women's Small.

There is also a montage of it on DeviantART, here, and one for Rivendell, here. I appreciate faves and comments! ^_^

Incidentally, remember how I said this yarn was impossible to photograph correctly? There are like five different shades in those photos, and somehow all of them are right. Oy.

In other news, I finished spinning the charcoal gray yarn (YAY) and have begun using it. Which means I can use the spindle for that yummy blue roving I've been itching to dig into for a while. YAY!

It's nice to finish stuff.

Finally, but most importantly, please take a minute today to remember all those who have served in the armed forces. Whether or not you agree with your country's policies, or approve of certain wars - remember that these men and women dedicated their lives to keeping your country, and you, safe and free.

To our veterans:  Thank you for serving.  You honor us with your bravery.
