OMG, you guys.
So.
Last weekend we went to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner. They had a new item on the menu:
chile en nogada. It was love at first sight.
BUT, the waiter said they didn't have it because it is seasonal. I asked when they would have it again and he told me they'd have it for sure this week. So.
I called this morning and they said they would definitely have it tonight, so the God-King, the Kinglet and I strolled in for dinner, got our drink order, and then were told it wasn't on the menu. Naturally, I was... displeased... We were prepared to leave (since that was the whole point of our being there) when the manager came over to tell us they *would* have it after five o'clock, which is when the chef would be on. So.
We left, did a little shopping, and came back. We got rock star treatment (the tall lady with the bosoms who wants chile en nogada is here!!) THEN, they served me this little piece of heaven on a plate:
If you haven't had this dish, it tastes like Mexican christmas. Oh my freakin' Godz. Walnut cream sauce, sweet poblano pepper, crunchy sweet pomegranate seeds, spicy-nutty carnita mixed with fresh fruits - which I'm told the manager picked up special for my meal on his way into work.
He said they haven't been keeping in stock because they've had so much of it go to waste. People tend not to order it, thinking, I guess, hmm - meat and fruit and nut sauce? They just don't know how good it is.
So let me tell you, people. How good it is.
