Updates:
There is snow in my yard. It's pretty and all, but I was promised spring. I've been prancing around in my leather boots and everything. (ok, not prancing. I rarely prance, and certainly not in boots. that would be dangerous.)
I am not pleased.
Nevertheless, I have everything ready to start my indoor seeds. Even if I procrastinate another few days, I'll still be almost a month ahead of tradition. By mother's day, I should have a healthy crop of babies ready to go.
In other news, we finally bought new kitchen light fixtures to replace the ones that were out-dated and broken (I've been staring up into a naked florescent bulb for months now.) I know it was bugging you too, right? Well, I spotted a good deal at Costco, so we pounced. The new lights are pretty - round, cut-glass domes (you know, the kind with the nipple), and a "oil-rubbed bronze" base.
Now, of course, I want my bronze-finished 2-handled kitchen faucet even more - and, by necessity, a stainless steel sink. Even at bottom-shelf prices we're looking at $600 bucks for that, and we still have to finish de-molding the basement. So... something to look forward to.
We went out to dinner with my folks yesterday. Mom is still hobbling on crutches - she swears she's getting better but every time I see her she's still on them. Also, her eyes looked yellow to me. Tell me how I'm not supposed to worry about that?
I mean... maybe she looks off because of the pain meds. But, still. Why does she still need all the pain meds and the crutches, if this is just a friggin' groin pull?
Gah.
I made good progress with Touch last week. I was hoping to post a victorious status message when I hit 70%, but I came across a little hiccup at 69%. It could be easily fixed with a few carefully worded passages, but apparently my brain is now taking a vacation. I know what I need to write but not how. Hopefully when I sit down at coffee office tomorrow (assuming we don't get another snowfall *glares out window), I will be able to polish it off and move on.I'm so close I can smell it!
Hypothetically. I can't actually smell it. I'm pretty sure I have a sinus infection. I was going to go to the doctor today, but I was discouraged by all the snow. Also, I feel icky.
Um. What else?
The stupid house voted to cut funding to Planned Parenthood - did you see that? If we're facebook friends then you must have, because I've been spewing about it there. But I would be remiss if I didn't voice my opinion here in an open post for all to see, because what's the point of blogging if not to spam even casual readers with your opinions?
What I think most people overlook when it comes to the Planned Parenthood issue and family planning in general is that efforts like this not only bypass the abortion crises (you don't have to abort if you don't conceive in the first place), but are actually an incredibly responsible and humane solution to the economic woes facing our country and the world. If you educate people and provide them with access to regular, reliable family planning, you cut down on the birth rate, hence the number of people who need medical care, housing and food, children needing education and supplies, people needing jobs, countries vying for resources, and ultimately war. Think about it. The fact that Washington would even consider eliminating family planning (or arguing that it isn't in the government's interest to provide it) boggles my mind. Seriously? Give a girl the pill and save millions of dollars and lives? Anyone?
No, but we can put viagra on a rich man's health care and give reality tv shows to irreponsible bastards who have 20 kids and counting.
Bah.
Anyway.
I picked up a copy of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, a picturebook by Mo Willems. It's one of my new favorites. Highly recommended.
Um.
That's about all I got.
