Okay, so a couple of posts back, I posted this picture:
Well, here's the story of why it's a big deal. Other than to show off how lovely my new crafty friend Grace is.
So I'm at work in my new store, right? On a Monday. And a customer comes in a is looking for some material to make a stole to go with a dress she's wearing to an event on the weekend. We look around a bit, and we find a lovely red and gold silk damask (lol, $48 a yard lovely). She asks "Is there anyone here who could make it for me?" I don't know how commissions work in the new store, so I have to ask. Turns out we can take commissions if we want them. So I say I could probably do it. She says "Can it be done quickly? I'm leaving on Friday." Uh, I say, sure, I'm not working tomorrow, I could have it for you on Wednesday. Oh, and by the way, where are you wearing it?
"I'm wearing it to the Oscars." She says.
Oh Em Gee.
So yeah, I made it on Tuesday for a Wednesday morning delivery. And she wore it on that Sunday. TO THE OSCARS. SOMETHING I MADE WAS WORN AT THE ACADEMY AWARDS. Like, only the biggest night in fashion anything. And I know it's the simplest thing in the world to make. It's just a rectangle with a french seam and a hand sewn hem. But still! My work! at the Oscars! Wow!

PS - If you're curious, she was attending with her brother, who was a nominee(!) for his documentary 'Iraq in Fragments'. Unfortunately, he lost to Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth'. Well, I like Al Gore, but it was unfortunate because if her brother won, I might haves seen the stole on TV if they'd show him. :)
