Update on me!

Okay, so I have lots of posts to make, but instead of making one HUGE post, I'm gonna break it up into separate posts with separate subjects.

Here's an update about my life!

So the last time some of you checked, I was working at Hancock Fabrics, and had been promoted to the rank of supervisor. All was good, I was loving it. I felt special. I had more hours, and the teensiest of pay raises.

Yeah, until Marcia came back from maternity leave. And because they'd promoted Maggie a week earlier than they'd promoted me (well, maybe longer than a week, but not that much) they HAD to DEMOTE ME. Even though they thought I'd been great. Even though they told me TO MY FACE that they wanted me to stay on as supervisor instead of Maggie. But with three days notice - fwoop! back down to regular sales floor peon.

So I started looking for a new job. :P

And I found one! I don't know if they were hiring actively or not, but I went in and got an application, and showed them my portfolio (they actually wanted to SEE IT! a nice change), and within, say, a week or two I was hired. I now work at Nancy's Sewing Basket on Queen Anne in Seattle.

It's a bit more of a commute than I used to have, but it's almost exclusively fasion sewing there, and most of the theaters in Seattle do a lot of shopping there. A lot of local designers do too. The fabrics are a lot better in quality, they have linen and wool and silk all year round! The prices are higher (hooboy, higher), but it's stuff you can't find anywhere else. Don't get me wrong, I'll still shop at Hancock and Joann (though I still think JoAnn is the bottom of the quality pile, as it were), but this is a good shop.

And I think the opportunity for opportunities will be much better for me here. Beacuse all sorts of designers and costumers shop here, I'll be able to broaden my contacts in the fashion and costuming world. Already we've had some crazy clients come through our doors. The creator of Bratz dolls? Yep, met him. Morgan Spurlock's Mother-in-law? Yep, met her too (okay, I know she has nothing to do with fashion, but worth mentioning anyway I thought, lol).

Also, for those Historical Fashion costumers out there - If you've even had a passing interest in Regency Fasion costuming (and we all love 'Pride and Prejudice', right?), then you're probably familiar with the La Mode Bagatelle Regency Wardrobe pattern. Well, we sell it at the store! I was very excited, and picked one up with my employee discount. And when I bought it they said "You know the woman who made this pattern works here, right?" [imagine Bethany's brain getting boggled] Well, no, I didn't. But there you have it. I work with the woman who made the pattern. And she's a lovely person too.

So yeah, things are different around here. But better, I think.

Bethany
