Why do movies now feel the need to bastardize perfectly good books? What is the point? The book had a good story line to begin with. The author had carefully thought out the significance of the setting, the characters. S/he had built an entire world. I can't imagine how painful it would be to see that world come crashing down in a sluice of a bad screenplay, acting, and significant plot details given up in favor of a pretty piece of special effects work.
For instance, Im watching Blood and Chocolate right now, which admittedly is about werewolves and for that reason alone is probably not a great idea for a movie (there really hasn't been a good one). But this book was one of my favorites in my preteen years. However, where the book has the setting in a Virginia Suburb, the movie has it set in Bucharest. Her family dies in the beginning of the movie, only her Father dies in teh book. She is in high school in the book, in the movie she is living with her aunt and going running and clubbing. Cmon now. THey bought the rights. Not that hard to make a good movie.
This happened with Ella Enchanted, too. Even somewhat in Harry Potter. I think i will cry if it happens in Stardust or The Golden Compass.
