It’s late when Susan finally returns home to find Merlin waiting for her in the dimmed lit living-room.
“Well, I feel like I’m sixteen again.” She tries to joke, but Merlin doesn’t say anything.
With a sigh, she moves to her daughter’s side, wrapping her arms around the girl.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Merlin asks, burying her face on the crook of her mother’s neck.
“I don’t know. I just didn’t.” Susan replies helpless.
“How long have you two…”
“A few months.”
“Oh.” Merlin says, pulling away. “You like him a lot, don’t you?”
“As much as you like Arthur.” Susan smiles sadly. “I’m sorry you had to find out this way.”
She tucks her daughter back into the safety of her arms and kisses the top of the dark head.
“Things will be ok between you and Arthur?”
“There’s nothing between me and Arthur.”
