Now announcing our daughter!

Oct 01, 2008 19:32

I'm too tired today to do much more than forward this announcement... Mina and I are doing
great, I just could use some uninterrupted sleep, which won't happen for awhile ;-) With statistics on Joe's side of the family, which is 6/7'ths male, we're very lucky, and were pleasantly surprised to meet our daughter! The grandmas have been shopping and actually used restraint, and didn't go girly-girly (which I appreciated). I have a number of unisex items from Kaelan, but hand-me-downs are welcome if anyone has some to offer. Time to go find dinner!

Subject: Birth announcement!

We're pleased to announce the birth of Minerva Liberty Brown
(nicknamed Mina). She was born at 09:54 this morning in our home,
after just under seven hours of labor. She weighs 8 pounds, and is
21 inches long. She's a healthy, beautiful baby, and is already
nursing like a champ.

Kaelan is utterly fascinated by his new little sister, and kisses her
on the forehead every time he gets near her. He commented that she
must have been cold, since she was wearing a hat and wrapped in a
blanket, inside. He's very protective of her already, and runs over
immediately to check on her every time she cries. This is after
getting only four hours of sleep last night, and a one-hour nap this
morning. My mother took him for a ride during the second half of the
labor so that he would not be upset by the noise, and he never
complained or gave her any trouble, despite being significantly
sleep-deprived. We hope this bodes well for the immediate future, as
it is certain that having two small children will occasionally be
tiring, and at least a few weeks of peace would be nice to let Denise recover.

Denise and Mina are doing fine. Seven hours of labor was much kinder
to Denise than the three hours of labor she had with Kaelan. She
says that it gave her time to actually breathe, and adjust to the
changes as labor progressed. Our midwife (Jeanne Brown) and
her assistant were extremely helpful, and we would
recommend them highly to anyone in NH who needs such services (they
also have a standalone birth center in Concord, for those who don't
want a homebirth).

If you want pictures, just send a reply and ask!
