obsessions R us

multred_a just posted some pictures of Little Moreton Hall which she's just visited. It's not one I've been to, mostly because it's medieval and I prefer Georgian, but I mentioned in a comment that I've seen around a hundred in the twenty five years I've been going to English country houses.

It's actually twenty four but still...twenty four years since I saw Chatsworth (about the fourth house I'd seen that summer and used in the Kiera Knightly Pride & Prejudice and, I think, in Wolfman) and fell in love and an obsession was born.

As a kid, dad dragged us to ruins and cathedrals and not glorious mansions. I could have been seeing glorious mansions for ten more years, dad!

I hope to get to a couple in the suburbs of London this summer. I've never gone to any of those because they're mile long walks from the nearest tube stops and this will be the first trip, when things are open, where I'm in good enough shape to walk that distance. I'll definitely see Osterley Park (Robert Adam houses are so incredibly gorgeous) and probably Chiswick House.

What's amazing is that my parents not only tolerate this obsession but they enable it. They let me drag them all over England visiting houses. Hell, they've gone to some on their own and gotten me guidebooks and pictures.

My goal is to see every house open to the public. My fantasy dream is to see every house period.

There's a college here somewhere that offers a degree in English Country Houses. Gawd, if I was twenty years younger and still in school I'd be transferring so fast...

OMG, I already have a tag 'obsessions r us'. I'm so lame! lolol

Also, I'm finally watching this season of Dr. Who. I like him okay. I really like Amy. I'm through the first angels ep. So, an icon from my favorite doctor and my favorite companion.
