at work, yay :P

Did not work yesterday. Court was actually called off for Tuesday as of 3:30 on Monday afternoon so I knew before leaving work. It had started to snow lightly but not stick when I left work.

We got about six inches overnight and I got up and went out to shovel. Very heavy, wet snow. 40K customers were without power in KC; we had just under 2K so I was a bit concerned about the heavy snow on the lines, but I kept power all day. I got about 3/4 of the driveway done, poohed out, and collapsed on the couch. Around 11:30 I went back out and it had pretty much stopped snowing and started melting. It was mid 30s all day. Huge plops of snow falling off the trees like snowballs. Fun noises that freaked the cats. So I finished the driveway and glowered at the sidewalks. The street was a big heap of slush.

I went out again around 4:30 and my neighbor had kindly done the sidewalk on one side so I did the other. I'm so glad we didn't get the predicted foot because it was so heavy and slushy even that morning. I'm sure my arms will be sore by later today.

Mom and dad were without power from 11:00 a.m. till 6:30 p.m. yesterday. It was a big outage. Being in the country they have a different electric company than I do. I wanted them to go to a motel, but they decided to stick it out and it worked out. Their house had only dropped to 66 degrees. That's still warmer than I keep mine!

Now dad is stuck at the end of the driveway after going out to get yesterday's mail and the newspaper, even in the truck. They still haven't found anyone to plow their lane/driveway. Mom was hoofing out to dig him out, muttering about letting him sit there and calling a tow truck. ETA just sent them a long list from craigslist of local snow removal people, probably most are for in town with snowblowers, but some said they had plows.

The plows came by my street around midnight and then I heard them again around 7:00 this morning, so I dragged on my boots and went out to shovel and some truck had driven into my driveway about a third of the way in, back and forth, crunching down the snow the plow piled up. I don't know if they did it on purpose, or if they were turning around or what, but it was nice. I only had to shovel out the stuff left between the tracks which only took about five minutes. We got about an inch more of snow overnight and I'm ignoring my sidewalks until Thursday after work in the hopes that will melt. I have my pedicure after work today.

Getting to work was fine except that downtown the plows pile the snow in the middle of the street and they hadn't cleared a path to turn left into the alley where I park. The other end of the alley did not look driveable, the parking lot next to our building was plowed but again a pile of snow I couldn't turn left over. I drove around several blocks until I could make a right turn into the parking lot and then into the alley. *snort*

Boss may not be in today, not because he can't get in, though he's not sure how the roads are up north, but because he has nothing on the calendar and may stay home to work on taxes. Unfortunately I have a ton of work to do. :P
