Snow Day 2

Feb 22, 2013 20:01

They canceled court again and since they didn't plow my street, I wasn't sure I could actually get to work. My boss wasn't sure he could get into town. We took the day off. I accessed the office email and contacted our client to tell them the trial was off and then I took my sore muscles out and shoveled some more.

Gorgeous day with the sun shining and not much wind, but too much fucking snow! We got another inch or so overnight for a total of a foot. My driveway was pretty good and my neighbor on one side had used his snow blower to do my sidewalk as far as his cord would stretch, leaving me only about two feet on that side. I shoveled about eight inches of snow off the other side. Took about forty five minutes and I'm so sore.

Did you know that the muscles in the underside of your forearms that you use to shovel you also need to press the buttons the remote control (and type). There's a knot on my left shoulderblade, a hitch in my right side, and the backs of my thighs hurt. Just a big blech.

They did pick up my trash today. I have no clue if I got any mail because I wasn't going back out there after late morning shoveling. They didn't even bother delivering yesterday. Today the issue is that our mail comes from Kansas City and, apparently, there wasn't much that made it from there. It's really stupid--you mail a letter to KC, it takes one day; you mail a letter to Lawrence, it takes two days because it has to go to KC first.

They still haven't plowed. Enough cars have driven on the street that I'm pretty sure if I can manage to back straight out of the driveway I can get up the street to the primary artery I know has been plowed. So I'm kind of hoping they don't plow overnight. I have an 8:30 in the morning hair appointment that's only about half a mile away, but if they plow, I'll have to spend an hour digging out the end of the driveway. :P

As mentioned, I'm already very sore.

I've been watching tv, napping, reading fanfic. Another lazy day except for the shoveling. I was kind of surprised that no one came around offering to plow out the driveway. Even though I've done half and the sidewalks, I'd have paid for the whole driveway and my steps.

I think I'm going to put the heating pad on my upper back and shoulders and lay on the couch and watch more tv and pray they don't plow.

Y'know, with the sun, if they'd plowed, the street would have been just wet by the end of the day. Places I shoveled but there was still a thin layer of snow, are now just wet. The six inches of snow on my back railings melted down to one. But even chopped up, a foot of snow in a street isn't going to melt. And if they'd plowed during the day, I would have gone out and shoveled even though I showered after the first shoveling.

You know the streets around the Fieldhouse are clear. KU is home tomorrow. Even though those residential streets are all flat and the City claimed they were plowing hilly streets first. Yeah, right, I live on a hill. The whole neighborhood is hilly. Not a sign of a plow.

So now, plows, just stay away.

snow day, snowmageddon, owies, stupid city
