On the other hand I've managed to lose the yellow file folder with almost all my bread recipes and several others taken from magazines and possibly the Christmas cookie recipe my nana typed (mom has it a well, at least). I spent two hours last night searching for it. All I can figure is that it got into a stack of magazines I threw out a couple weeks ago but I don't see how since I don't think I'd have gone through it outside the kitchen and the mags were in the living room. *sigh*
The tree is decorated except for the very top and the topper. I need to get the step stool out to finish this afternoon. (I proved I can go up one step as I did it several times yesterday to look through the cookbook/magazine cabinet). I bought a whole bunch of new ornaments. I love my very eclectic tree. Yes, the ones in magazines that are all in one color or such are lovely but mine is snowmen and Hallmark comic book/movie ones and Madame Alexander dolls, and Jayhawk ornaments and George Brett *g* and shoes and purses and also old German ornaments that were my grandparents' and one of the first ornaments my parents owned--a red ball with frosted deer on it. Oh and birds with long feathery tails--the new in thing. I have a Las Vegas sign and a Frangos box, a pair of angel's wings, and a wooden tiger Ellie gave me and lots more.
KU, of course, lost badly, but KSU won. Unfortunately Alabama won, too, but KSU will go to one of the BCS bowls. I probably won't watch the championship game because I can't stand either Notre Dame or Alabama.
Also in happy basketball news, Baylor beat Kentucky, breaking Kentucky's 55 game home win streak. :)
Today I have to do my wish list, finish decorating, choose bread recipes and brunch recipe and write a Dean/Cas fic that's due tomorrow.
Okay, as I'm typing, half the line is hidden...switching to old view.
Much better. Also, my 'r' key is no longer sticking which makes ficcing a lot easier.
We had a guest minister today--he spoke on spirituality and how everyone defines it differently but how our third principal encourages us to support others spiritual journeys. It was very good. He talks with his hands. The hymns, reading and children's story all went well with it, too. The music was a wonderful arrangement of a couple folk songs for piano, drum, two trombones and two clarinets. One of our choir members/pianists does a lot of the arrangements for groups and he did this. He also plays the drum and the french horn--his son was one of the clarinetists, very musical family. Really excellent.
I spoke with our minister and she definitely wants me to sing O Come O Come Emmanuel for Christmas Eve so I need to get the music and talk to the pianist, which is the same one from last week who said she wanted to work with me again. :)
Mom and I planned the Winter Solstice since one member just had a baby, one is backing off from it, though she'll participate in the service, and one didn't show up meeting. *sigh*
One of our long time members who is a great cook/baker came up to me and congratulated me on the best snickerdoodle she'd ever had (she was eating one of the leftovers from Wednesday night) so I sent her the recipe. They really did turn out well. I'm using expensive vanilla, I always use butter, and I've started using my stand mixer and baking all cookies on parchment paper. I also used King Arthur's flour. I'm not sure what or if any of that made a difference, but they didn't get hard; were still chewy even after being refrigerated for a week.
Went home and watched nearly the first half of the Chiefs. Dad came with about a minute left in the half, so I decided to record it since it was 14-10 and we were about to score to take the lead.
Fifteen minutes downtown, fifteen minutes back and dad and I shopped for pretty much one hour. *sigh* Well, it helps that mom has picked out what she wants so there's really no shopping. Just picking up and paying. The most dad shopped was in our new fair trade "10000 Villages" store where he decided which of the many nativities to get her and going through a dozen or so singing bowls at the African store (it's called The Third World but I always call it the African store for some reason). He got her a Nespresso, too, which is way outside his budget (as it was half and he got her a lot of other stuff, too) but that's dad for you. Pretty much everything on her list either he or I bought. I'm ordering a scarf from Etsy for her and then I'm done.
Weather is gorgeous, after a foggy morning. It was about 68 downtown and while I left my cardigan in the car, I wore a scarf and got hot. A couple shops were very warm.
Now I'm watching the Chiefs and we did score before the half and have scored again and we're up by ten points. Considering that we've averaged like fifteen points a game and we've already scored twenty four, I'm not sure what's going on.
Oh, and my phone's battery ran down very quickly. I'm charging it now. Maybe I didn't get it plugged all the way in last night? I had a message from mom this morning and I checked my email a couple times at church, but nothing to make the battery run down if it had been charged all the way. I'm going to check what's running on it, but I'm really hoping that the issue was that I didn't plug it in all the way last night.
And, why on Earth is one of our hundred year old stores NOT open on Sunday? Even the store I wanted to go to Thursday night which wasn't open was open today and I got mom a top there and a cameo brooch for myself. We weren't buying jewelry but mom wanted us to drop off her watch for a new battery at Marks Jewelers and it was closed. Though I'm glad dad did have a meeting after church because most stores weren't open until one and we would have been there by 11:30 or so and would have had to eat a long lunch. Lots of business due to the good weather. Apparently it was very busy yesterday--holiday parade downtown (old fashioned horse one) which is one reason we shopped today.
Okay, gotta go check my phone...
