(well, except for the work stuff and the Chiefs sucking again)
Had a lot of fun with
nursedarry and kidlings! On Tuesday we went out to my parents' to carve pumpkins. Godson cut his thumb and thought it was the end of the world but it didn't stop him from trick or treating. :) Met up with them downtown to trick or treat. Great weather--60s, very little wind. I've never paid much attention to the downtown event but it was fun. A lot of the store owners/workers dressed up to hand out treats and most were outside. We have a lot of restaurants on the main street and sidewalk seating areas and a lot of people sat out or just inside to watch the parade go by (great idea for those of us who like the spectacle but have no kids!), including a politician which was VERY smart--she had her campaign button on and was handing out pencils.
Kidlings got tons of candy and their costumes were gorgeous. When I was a kid I was lucky that my nana sewed most of my costumes because, unless someone made you one, you were usually relegated to those plastic things, but even mass produced costumes are really nice these days, and we also had a lot of unique handmade ones (the kid as R2D2 in a wheelchair was so clever!)
Saw lots of zombies, Snow Whites, and ninjas. Lots of adults in costumes with their kids. A notable one was a great Pinhead with his tiny little devil son.
I'm guessing there was a good couple thousand people downtown. An article in the paper said that stores routinely bought 5000 pieces of candy!
A local law firm turned their lobby into a haunted house. That was very impressive.
Then we went out to dinner where I ate one taco and not all my refried beans. A month ago (before surgery and diabetes) I would have eaten three tacos, the beans and the rice. I have no clue where my appetite has gone. Yesterday I was 12 points below my daily allowance. Dar's husband paid for most of my meals but I figure I only set him back about $25 for three meals!
Speaking of yesterday, met Dar and her mother at her dad's house (dad in retirement home; dad a packrat just slightly worse than me) so she could go through some things of hers and toss most of it. I took her yearbook from the year after I graduated because I'm weird that way. I still have all the stories she wrote and we wrote together from high school, too. It was fun remembering all the things we used to do in high school and college. I first met her in that house!
Then we went to lunch where I had a tiny bit of salad and about 2/3 of a bowl of minestrone. *sigh*
Said goodbye to them and got ready for my meeting with the high schooler to prepare for Sunday's service. Feel much more ready this time I'm working with her. We got the readings chosen and she's working on her sermon. And she's getting better at email! :) She's a really sweet, smart kid. And I got the Order of Service done this morning before work. I just need to pin down one more reader.
Last night I watched the Chiefs crash and burn then watched Vampire Diaries (can Elena and Damien just do it already?) and CSI from the night before. Awwww puppy! I'm slightly behind on tv this week (haven't watched the last two SPNs yet!) but have little to do this weekend and no Chiefs on Sunday obviously. Also, house is nice and clean--need to keep it that way for Thanksgiving (yeah, that'll happen). KU plays tomorrow at 2:30 at Baylor. Maybe I'll get some ficcing done.
Oh, I did get my IWRY fic done at 12:04 a.m. on Thursday (it was due on Halloween). Over 4000 words. I asked that they not post it until after this weekend because I'm trying to write the immediate prequel to this fic (the Buffy/Lucifer one for those few following along with the now entitled "A Series in Hell" series) and get them all up on AO3 for easy access.
Yuletide assignments go out today! I'm going to try to write some treats this year, but I always say that. I have to finish my poly BB, too. I left off right before the smut.
Blood sugar slowly coming down. It was 127 last night and 148 this morning. It helps that I'm barely eating anything. I have thirty one more days of the very expensive secondary diabetes meds (got samples from the doc and then a coupon for a free thirty day trial) so hopefully by the time I'm done with those I'll get this to normal. It's getting there. On Tuesday it was 121 at night, lowest it's been!
One thing I have noticed, is that I'm very cold. Not only is my body temp below normal sometimes, I'm freezing a lot. That happened for a couple years when I lost weight on Nutrisystem. I had to bundle up in sweaters over flannel pjs and two pairs of socks and fingerless gloves and blankets all winter, even to sleep. I really hope that's not happening again but considering it's not even that cold out yet...I'm guessing this is the blood sugar dropping and the dieting combined. I know I've lost weight--clothes are already fitting so much better--but, again, not eating.
Not that I'm not craving things like icecream and candy and gooey cheesy entrees, but I don't think I'd be able to eat much of them if I tried. *sigh* Sometimes, with the nausea, what I really want is Wonder White Bread toast with honey. *sigh* Can't have any of that...So I don't eat anything.
Also, that time of the month is now again that time of the month (in that it's stupidly regular. I'm 47, go away!) with cramps and all. Yay. :P
Well, I'm at work and there are huge piles (which I have organized). You'd have thought I'd been gone two weeks rather than two days! At least all the closed file organizing and moving got done by strong, young son of boss. I hate doing that.
