i knew i should be more worried about the state than federal government
For the few Republicans reading this...don't. Major rant ahead.
With a Republican dominated legislature and state senate and that asshat Republican thug as a governor, while the country's attention is focused on Wisconsin, Kansas' legislature has, in the last couple days, approved bills to require ID to vote (and, worse to require a birth certificate or passport to register!!!!) because of the high occurrence of vote fraud (like 12 in the last 30 years or so<--sarcasm), pretty much end late term abortions because of "fetal pain" after 20 weeks, do away with the mental health reason for women to have them, and require BOTH parents to agree in writing for a minor's abortion (when this came up in the early 80s I was terrified it would pass and I have UNDERSTANDING parents and I wasn't having sex!), and basically pull the same union busting crap as in Wisconsin on public employees.

Next up, intelligent design as law and forced church attendance.
In years past we've had Democrat governors around to veto this kind of shit.
All I can hope for is that the idiot voters start to feel the impact as well and realize they screwed up. Yeah, that ain't gonna happen.
Actually a part of me wants everything to just fall apart and people to riot in the streets and anarchy to take over because that may be what it takes to get this country back to common sense. Are we at the fall of Rome here? Democratic civilizations are only supposed to last a couple hundred years. We're past that. The government is pulling the bread and circuses crap on the masses and they're BUYING it. My state is focusing on the above (the voter fraud/id for example is such a bunch of worthless shit) rather than the tanking economy, the rise in unemployment and homelessness, the rise in gas prices, the loss of businesses (I drive around town and there are businesses closed everywhere and we're one of the more prosperous areas!) because that's the "easy" stuff. The stuff to pacify the screaming teabaggers and rightwing religious nutters. Fixing the economy takes work. So much easier to make you bring a birth certificate to register to vote in a state with incredibly low voter fraud. Pander, pander, pander, that's all they do.
