Who knew something so nerdy could be so cool!

Okay. So. I have to come clean. I didn't know jack about Star Trek before now. Seriously. I knew who Spock and Kirk were, in a vague sort of way, but I didn't know anything about them. Just that they were on this show that the Trekkies liked, and they said "live long and prosper" a lot. So when I went to see the movies, I was expecting to see lots ( Read more... )

I grew up with Star Trek - more The Next Generation, Deep Space 9 and Voyager over The Original Series, but I saw my fair share of the last one as well. And yes, it mostly revolved around Kirk and Spock and their relationship with each other. In fact (tiny bit of fanfic trivia for you) the origin of "slash" to describe gay relationships in fic came from "Kirk/Spock."

I've seen it once, on regular screen, and am scraping together the cash to go see it on IMAX. One of my clients at the bank told me he's seen it five times now, four on IMAX, and you wouldn't believe the difference the bigger screen makes. If you possibly can if there's an IMAX screen near you, watch it that way.

And really, it was only Spock that said "live long and prosper - it's a Vulcan thing

That's cool you are so familiar with it! It's pretty incredible that the story has lasted so long and through so many different series.

I wish we had an IMAX here, but we don't. I may have to take a road trip or something. I NEED to see this movie on the big, big screen. :)

Yeah, it surprised me that the "live long and prosper" was just for Vulcans. I just thought it was for everybody! But it fits Spock just right, and I can see why it became such an iconic phrase.

I feel the same... it was like that weird not-starwars series for me, but now I feel I've lost a lot of time without Star Trek... Why no one told me about this before?
I love Kirk and Spock, and their relationship, and how BFF they are in TOS...
I need the sequel... and watch TOS and the movie (for fifth time, maybe, if not more)

Seriously. I have seen that movie three times and it is NOT ENOUGH.
