Who knew something so nerdy could be so cool!
Okay. So. I have to come clean. I didn't know jack about Star Trek before now. Seriously. I knew who Spock and Kirk were, in a vague sort of way, but I didn't know anything about them. Just that they were on this show that the Trekkies liked, and they said "live long and prosper" a lot. So when I went to see the movies, I was expecting to see lots of crazy awesome special effects (check) and references I would not get (double check). What I did not expect was a character driven movie that made such an impression I have seen it three times.
WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THERE WAS AN EPIC FRIENDSHIP IN THIS STORY! EPIC MAN-FRIENDSHIPS ARE MY FAVORITE THING! It makes me sad that I was completely unaware of the awesomeness of Spock and Kirk. HOW DID I LIVE WITHOUT THEM BEFORE NOW?
Seriously, if you haven't seen the movie yet, GO RIGHT NOW. It was powerful, and moving, and the cast was ridiculously amazing. Absolutely the best movie I have seen in ages.
I hope this is the beginning of a new set of wonderful movies.
