Today it is Rosh Chodesh, the Jewish festival of the New Moon. The moon renews itself each month. It comes, shines and goes away -as if it dies- to come back again as a tiny silver slice. It shows us that we have the opportunity to renew ourselves, and that God has the opportunity to renew him- or herself.
The question for which I pulled my card is: what is my renewal of the coming month? The Empress of the Tarot of Jane Austen came to the table. Pictured on the card is a pregnant Anne Westwood from the book Emma, sitting comfortably in a garden. Anne Westwood is a happy married woman who devotes herself to her husband and the people close to her.

My renewal of this month will affect my role of being a nurturer and a caregiver; it will touch the attitudes of being supportive and compassionate, being proud of my daughter who sings in the service of Holy Night. It will also revolve around delights: the pleasure of enjoying the Christmas season, the pleasure of food and of being together.
I end with a prayer.
Dear God, I bless you for the new moon,
for the Sjechina, your presence among us.
Dear God, I thank you for the possibility of renewal,
the renewal of you and the renewal of us.
