Sherrilyn Kenyon's Acheron

Wheeeeeee!

I bought this 700+ page behemoth yesterday afternoon at Target & finished it this morning.

Oh man, what a refreshing read this is, because unlike another author of the vampire "romance" genre, it's not all about the main character's repeated sexual escapades.

Yeah, there's sex in the book, but most of it is not all in gory details that go on for pages at a time.  There has to be sex, because of the way the leading man was brought up, however, it doesn't dominate the book and wipe out the plot.

Oh, Ms. Kenyon, you have totally managed to keep yourself grounded firmly in reality and not lose sight of the fact that while sex sells, overuse of sex will kill the story.

Unlike the other author whom i won't name, Ms. Kenyon doesn't go on bemoaning how hard her life is - she's got 3 boys she's trying to raise, one of whom is autistic, and she doesn't feel the need to have a bodyguard with her wherever she goes.  (Nor, does she write obsessive blogs over said bodyguard.... who is married w/ 2 kids!)  Not to mention - Ms. Kenyon still uses an editor and doesn't abuse the English language constantly unlike her fellow writer.  The other author still treats her teenage daughter like a kindergartner, whines about having to get 8 pages a day done, works from home and has a full time housekeeper/maid along w/ Hubby #2 playing housewife to her being the breadwinner.  Glen Cook, another local author and book dealer has said, that he doesn't allow himself a beer at night unless he's gotten at least thirty pages done that day.  He has said that he will not let things run out to the deadline and then turn in a crap submission just because the publisher has set a deadline. The gentleman is a retired GM engineer - so he knows about deadlines.  :-p

The first half of the book totally deals w/ the male lead's "first" life and how seriously fubarred that was.  Second half, we finally get to see things turn around for him in his current life.

Things don't end happily ever after for all involved - there's still a lot of loose ends to be worked out, but hey, I know she's got more books coming in this series - we still have Nick's situation to deal with.  And, my oh my, is that going to be interesting....  there's someone who's still carrying too much grief and anger at Ash. While he made the right move to save the female lead, he's not ready to listen to Ash yet about what happened back in Seize the Night.

Artemis proves she's still a bitch, but maybe now there's hope for her.... (maybe now w/ Nick she will learn what it's really like to be someone's friend?  I don't know.... )

Apollymi (sp?) shows just how much she's willing to do to protect Ash after her actions failed to do so in his first life.  That's a goddess you really don't want on your bad side.

Ash - he finally tells off the Greek Fates, telling them that he's had enough of their screwing w/ his life.

There are probably more hints about what will come, however, I didn't obsess over the book this read through, gleaning out all the small details.  That's something for another day.

If you haven't read any of Ms. Kenyon's previous stories in this series, I recommend you do so, just so you don't feel like you're being thrown off into the deep end and trying to keep up w/ all the names - people and places - and still understand just what the heck is happening in the plot.

Okay, enough blathering on this topic....  I need to go get my shower & get over to the office.  I have appointments I need to log into the calendar there & talk to these people about how they want to handle tomorrow - hubby & wife team coming out for a 30 min massage session.  Do they want to do same room (which means rearranging upstairs in Holly's office) or separate rooms?  So, a phone call must be placed to them today to verify that....
