Bring Back Reading Rainbow!

Jun 02, 2014 17:26

Reading Rainbow premiered long after I was of age to need it but it was a very valid show in getting kids to want to read.

The folks behind the new, revived Reading Rainbow did their research and found the ONE in FOUR children in the US will grow up illiterate.

That's pretty astounding and sad.  One in four children are being failed here by our society.

So, LeVar Burton and crew are determined to do what they can to reverse it.  Hence, the Reading Rainbow Kickstarter project.

Their initial "modest" goal that they hoped to make in like 35 days - $1 million.  Blown away.  Completely and totally blown away.  :):):)

They blew past that in the first day.

LeVar was on set for Pereception (quirky TNT drama about a college prof with schizophrenia who also helps the FBI solve crimes) glued to a laptop when they broke the first million.  He was shocked beyond belief that so many people would contribute so much in so short a time.

He has been super busy doing interviews like mad since this blew up and now, their new goal is $5 million and we are well over half way there.

The total pledged so far is $3,304,073.  Can we break that $5 million dollar mark?  I certainly hope so!

kickstarter, reading rainbow
