Family Draaaaaahma :(
Well, the shit finally hit the fan Sunday with Sister # 4 and her stupidity.....
She landed in Barnes ICU with a poor prognosis after having to have emergency brain surgery. Mom flew home Monday morning and we think that Nephew # 1 currently is the one having to make medical decisions for her, since the asshole bro-in-law is on bond (thanks to his parents who always bail him out...) and just might be facing murder charges if things go completely south. That's another kettle of fish the family is trying to figure out - who has her medical proxy? Nephew # 1 doesn't seem capable of making decisions. He seems to be more shut down than anything.
She made it past the first 48 hours, but still has tubes everywhere and at the moment, is completely paralyzed on her left side. They don't know when or if she will regain any movement on that side, they are waiting for the swelling to go down.
We have no idea just yet what he's all been charged with. The cops held him for close to 48 hours before they released him after confiscating all his clothing, his keys and the car, since he hit her with the car. (We still haven't gotten the whole story on that yet - waiting for the accident report. We do know that the police rushed his blood work because he has a trial quickly approaching and they want to be able to throw the book at him this time, instead of him just skating away with another fine.)
Nephew # 5 stayed with Sister # 2 for a couple of days before deciding he wanted to go stay at his friend X's place because he felt "safe" there... This could be a permanent arrangement now of him coming to live with Sister # 2 from what the family has said in the past and doubtful that Sis # 4, *if* she survives her injuries, will be able to care for herself, let alone her youngest. His grades have been in the toilet and he's not been getting his ADHD meds that he really needs. (When he's got his meds, he's stable, he can concentrate on his school work and isn't such a goof ball.) I'm normally not in favor of medicating kids, but the difference is night and day when he's on his meds.
My mother was in the process of doing a background check on the woman that Nephew was staying with. No way in hell were we going to let him stay with another druggie loser. The woman has had a handful of civil court cases against her from what we can dig up on Case Net and Sister #4 said that while she liked the boy, he was always sick because the mother was a freaking animal hoarder an St. Charles County wouldn't do anything about it.
Mom was trying to get Nephew # 1 and his sister - Niece # 1 to come talk to the rest of us and get some input on what we were going to do with the youngest and try to get them to step up to the plate. However, I don't see that happening. Neither one has been the most communicative and Niece # 1 has been playing it close with her other grandparents. She came to town with her new baby, saw her mother on Tuesday and didn't bother calling my mother back.
I've long since given up on this sibling surviving to 50 - she's too much of a druggie, her husband is an equal piece of shit and when he gets hopped up on coke, he beats her up. But yet, she won't divorce the asshole... she makes the noises but won't follow through on the court appearances and such. This has been going on for over 25 years now. I'm tired of it. :(
We *all* knew it was coming - we just didn't know when.I think we were hoping that it would not happen so close to my parents' anniversary (Feb 7) and my brother's death (alcohol poisoning, Feb 5, '07.) However, my sister has always had the *best* timing for doing stupid shit and Sunday's events proved just how far gone she was....
This just might blow my plans for my Memphis run next weekend. We will see. For now, however, I need to gear up for an insanely busy weekend at Sound Stone Massage of Crestwood......
