Getting desperate...

Geoff and I are having horrible network problems here at home. Suddenly, Sunday morning, our internet connection goes out. We didn't change anything or do anything, it just stopped working. After much trial and just as much error, we've determined that we can have the internal network between computers or one computer connecting to the outside, but not both. Something is wrong between our cable modem and our router. We've called Comcast. They told us to call Linksys (the router manufacturer). Linksys told us to buy a new router. It didn't work. Linksys then told us to exchange the router, which doesn't make sense. We've gone through this cycle a few times now. Bastards.

We've tried all the various ipconfig /release and /renew combinations, and we've tried DHCP renewal from the modem. We've rebooted the heck out of everything. This page: www.elifulkerson.com/articles/router-vs-comcast.php seems to be the closest to helping, but it's still not quite working. I think we're running into problems with step 6 "Enter the router's configuration with your web browser." The terminology between the ipconfig output is different from that of the router interface, so I'm not sure it's being entered correctly. I feel like I should at *least* have a Default Gateway and DNS entry, though Comcast says it should all be automatic as long as everything is set to "dynamic," which they have confirmed it is. Of course, they don't support home networks, so they can't give us any more specifics than that. I'm still relatively convinced that they change something on Sunday that's screwing us up, because nothing on our end changed. Now, of course, everything's scrambled all to hell, and I'm completely lost.

Any suggestions? I've tried asking more network-savvy friends, but they're tapped out, and I don't even know who else to ask. Help!
