ok, so skiing was interesting. definitely hard work (not that i thought otherwise).  Heavenly was definitely not the best place to go for the first time though.  they only have one green trail and you have to ski down a blue to get to the green. not great planning if you ask me.  jesse did considerably better than me but i think a huge part of that was he's in better shape than me cuz he still occasionally walks places.  the mountains were beautiful. jesse got a few really great shots the day we left.  i'm sure he's at least posted them on his flickr account if not on the cityscapes community here on lj.  he even had a print made of one shot so that'll be going up on the wall soon.  he's definitely getting into the whole digital photography thing.  we just upgraded to aperture 2.0 and he's got CS3.  we need to work on augmenting our lens collection though.  what we really need is a wide angle.  there are some really awesome victorians in the haight that i really want a picture of but we don't have a lens wide enough yet to get them all together.  i really wish we had cheaper hobbies..... we also just bought a set of speakers.  they're klipsch of course. they're actually the same model as jesse's other speakers.  we're working on getting all the components to put together a sweet surround sound system.  jesse's looking at a new receiver. see, expensive, i tell ya.

speaking of expensive hobbies, i got my kindle a week ago today. i love it! it's awesome.  it's so much lighter to carry and it's way easier to read one handed compared to an actual paperback.  i have, of course, been obsessively reading since i got it.

other news: two weekends ago we went up to Sonoma (Healdsburg, specifically) for a barrel-tasting event.  it was great.  in downtown Healdsburg, a ton of wineries have tasting rooms scatter over a few blocks so you just walk from one to another, drink wine, eat food, and generally be merry.  we bought a couple of futures which i'm excited about.  we've got a late harvest zin coming in august which is a somewhat sweet dessert wine that i'll probably pair with a chocolate flourless cake and maybe a raspberry sauce. and then there's aonther zin which we're getting 2 bottles as payment for doing the driving (which works for me!) which sould be out in sept i think.  we also walked away with a bottle of syrah and a late harvest chardonnay, both from Kendall-Jackson. the chardonnay is another dessert wine that was amazingly good. i'm not sure yet what i'm going to pair that with but i'm definitely excited about it.

this past weekend we went to see There Will Be Blood.  this is actually the first movie i've seen with Daniel Day-Lewis and i was definitely impressed by his performance.  i enjoyed the movie. i thought the music was a little weird.  it was obvious, it didn't sink into the background like you would expect it to.  apparently one of the guys from Radiohead did the score. we bought No Country for Old Men on Fri but haven't yet watched it.  after Blood, we both needed a bit of a wreak from heavy movies. so we've got that plus a few Netflix movies to watch: Ken Burns' The War (disc 1), La Femme Nikita, and Breach.  we actually started Breach Mon night, got about 20 min into the movie when Jesse's mom called and reminded him to call his grandfather since it was his 75th birthday.  we paused it, figuring he'd be on the phone for 5 or 10 minutes.  an hour later, he was finally off the phone and it was a little late the watch the last hour and a half of the movie.  oops.

so that my exciting life.
