skiing and such

well, look at that. i'm alive.  and making a post! it's shocking!

anyways, so we going to Lake Tahoe this weekend.  It's the annual Jansgroup ski trip  (Jan being Jesse's advisor).  now, i'm from Florida, right? i didn't see snow until i was 20. and then, it was snow in Tennessee which means there was barely an inch and it was gone in a day.  this thing called skiing, i've never done it.  i'm a little afraid to, actually. it's seems very athletic and cold.  oh, and damned expensive.  See, Jan is all high-brow so we're going to Heavenly.  If you know anything about Tahoe, you know Heavenly is not cheap.  discount lift tickets are $66 a day.  plus there's the ski rentals, the food, the cabin.  so it's hard to be all gung-ho about something i'm not sure i'll like and costs a small fortune.  And pretty much everyone else who's going has skiied before. in fact, most of the others are European from cold countries and have skied practically all their lives. so do i really need to try it for the first time in their company? no, i think not.

Now, what would make this the most awesome weekend ever is if my Kindle showed up tomorrow before we left for Tahoe.  But i seriously doubt that it will. there's another huge backlog (they got it down to 2 weeks right before i ordered) and i'm figuring it'll be about another week until i get mine (bringing my total wait time to 4 weeks). i'm really excited about getting it though. i've already sent about 20 sample chapters to my queue for download when i finally get mine and as i keep waiting the that number will grow.  how awesome is it that you can get samples of just about everything so you can have a look at the book before you buy it? yes, i know i could go to a bookstore and actually look at the book but this eliminates the having to go somewhere part.  i've not given up on buying books completely.  there are certain authors and books i want to have the hardcopy but a lot of my stuff, it's easier for it to just be electronic.  it'll keep my shelves freer for the must haves and (make moving easier).

speaking of moving, Jesse and I are in May.  we've about had it with the whole roommate thing.  it'll be nice to get it back to just the two of us.  Jesse's been trolling on craigslist for the last 3 months.  the problem being, we're pretty much stuck in our current place until the end of May so when he sees these great places it kinda sucks cuz we can't get them.  we're hoping next month places that are opening up in May are going to start getting posted.  if we have to double up for a month, that's alright.  i'd rather have a couple of weeks to slowly move anyways.  we've got a bunch of stuff and it's all randomly throughout the house so it'll take a bit for everyone to claim their stuff and sort it all out (everyone but one person is planning on moving out).  we're looking at the downtown Oakland and Lake Merritt areas.

ok, my time wasting technique has worked! i've made this very long post and now it's time to get ready to go home! woot. and tomorrow is friday! i like that.
