The Flaming Pot of Doom

Ok, so I almost burned down the house last night. I was attempting to cook curry, and I guess I put too little oil in the pan and the heat was up too high. Still don't know quite what happened, as stuff like that usually happens when people leave the food alone, and I was there the entire time. I hear this phoof noise, and I see these flames like a foot high coming out of the pot. I couldn't douse it with water because it was an oil fire, and then the fire alarms went off. Really, really loudly. And then there was this little calm voice under it all going, "Fire, fire." I ask you, who would NOT understand that there is a fire with all that beeping going on?! I was would have thrown something at it but I was a little too busy trying to beat out the fire with a dish towel because we couldn't get the fire extinguisher off the wall. That didn't work too well, so we called the fire department. Of course, by the time they got there the fire had burnt itself out. The fireman came, and they were very nice. This apparently happens a lot in college towns, although usually it's with burnt popcorn in dorms. This one girl just never learned and burned popcorn badly enough so that once a month we had the alarm go off. Sometimes at two in the morning! Ugh. So we opened all the windows and doors and sat outside for awhile, and then we went to Jamba juice and a sandwich place, because obviously there was no dinner. And it apparently gives everyone license to mock me for the rest of my life. At least it wasn't The Amazing Fondu Pot Explosion like my dad's. There were human shaped clean spaces on the walls where there WASN'T oil.
Anyway, that was my night. And the day started out so well too. I went to the beach. It was 84 degrees. It was lovely. Leslie thinks we've been hit by two of the four elements, fire and water (you know, the great flood) so now we're due for earth and water. Now technically, we've already had the tornado, but there's an earthquake due. Oy. And they've been teasing me, and I'm sorry, but FIRE"S HAPPEN!!! It's nature!!! And the evil pot of doom!
