more cultural differences in the school system
the new school year just started, so there is a whole group of new fresh-out-of-kindergarten first graders in my elementary school... one of whom happens to be of russian descent (i'll call her "m." this conversation took place in the teachers' room:
teacher: m was absent from school yesterday.
me: really? is she okay?
teacher: her mother said she had a headache so she let her stay home that day. we were so surprised! if it happens again, we're going to tell her mother that she has to be more strict with her.
me: ...
