I just watched the documentary "Jesus Camp" (that's the german title), about evangelical children and the summer camp "Kids on Fire".
It scared me. In a way it was worse than some horror movies.
Some quotes from it:
-"WE HAVE THE TRUTH."
- "Creationism is the only possible answer."
- Schools started falling apart after the school prayer was banned."
- "TAKE BACK THE LAND."
- "Punishment for Sin is Death." (after telling all the kids that they sinned)
-" Warlocks are enemies of God, Harry Potter would have been put to death in the old Testament."
- "Let us break the chains around our nation." by a ~7 yr old, crying girl.
- "MAKE WAR!"
I've got a close friend who is religious and adores the Pope (don't get me started on that) and my flatmate is a member of Christian Science (which is considered a Free Church in Germany, as opposed to the two State Churches), and they both deeply believe in their stuff. But I've never ever been around fanatics like the American ones portrayed in the little movie, and I cannot wrap my head around how some people can truly believe that they own some kind of Truth that applies to everybody. On the one hand they say "We have the truth", and on the other hand it was apparent how small their world was, they never thought outside the fence or across the american border.
What gives them the right to tell other people what to believe? I.just.don't.get.that.kind.of.dangerous.stupid.
