Let's just say that my "discovery" of B1A4 came as a surprise and turned into a 'whirlwind romance'.
I remember that I was waiting for our plumber to finish fixing our sink that Saturday, April 28, 2012.
I was about to go to Hollywood Bowl with my friend.
Since I was stuck in the house for quite some time, I went ahead and listened to the Seoulbeats podcast, where the hosts were talking about debuts and rookies. They mentioned a group named 'B1A4' and they were arguing what was the reason for their name, if it was the blood-types or 'Be the One All for One'. And at the time, I couldn't care less. I never even heard of their group name before. And then, there it was. At the end of the podcast, they played a pretty nice ballad. I looked through the comments, and there was the title of the song, "Smile". I immediately searched for it and fell in love with the song.

After that, I watched their music videos and listened to their title tracks. I stumbled upon the "Beautiful Target" MV, and I remember asking myself, "How come none of them look ugly?" (You know the feeling when you search for the most handsome member /in your eyes/ and possibly calling him your bias?)These boys are just the cutest creatures ever. Their colors brightly shone. They were lively and happy. Before I knew it, I learned their names and added ALL of them in Twitter. That's really unusual for me 'cause I rarely follow celebrities. These boys -- I followed them instantly when I found out that they have Twitter accounts, wayyyy before I even watched Sesame Player. That speaks a lot for me. And a week later, I've watched Sesame Player, Match Up, Weekly Idol and almost every interviews they have.
What really surprised me about myself is how much I was excited about being a fan of a new group again. It's a risk rooting for a rookie group because the future is uncertain in kpop idoldom, i.e. the most popular groups have secured their place while another rookie group will emerge a day later. But I said, "I'll stan this group even if their not popular." And lo and behold, they've swept almost every rookie awards in 2011 and had 80,000 members in their daum fan cafe. What, unpopular? Being someone who's been around kpop as long as I have should have a knack in spotting idol groups with star quality. And I just knew B1A4 have it.
