Oh dear oh dear, Katie is struggling with a structureles life.  No work to be had at all.  Pity pity.

In order to try to combat this, I've taken to being a massive geek.  Not content to try to read a few of the fiction books that will help next year, I've started spending an hour or so in the local library most days, trying to read some Foucault.  And thanks to mum's being staff at the college, I can use their library and I've got some Lyotard coming in next week from Bangor.  How very nerdy.  I don't think it's helping much though.  One to two hours of library time, taken at random, isn't putting much structure there really.
And my sleeping pattern has gone from pretty poor (going to bed late-ish and getting up between 10 and 11) to pretty awful (not being able to sleep until well past 4 and getting up between half 11 and half 12).

Things are deffinitely better than last year though.  I'm not nearly as apprehensive about going back to Cardiff in September because I know how crap the house is now and I'm sure I shall survive.  And Debra has been home a lot more.  And I'm occasionally actually socialising.  For example this weekend coming there's Rock on the River - combining the joys of wakeboarding competitions, live music, fairground rides and lovely scenic Conwy.  I'm actually ridiculously excited and don't know what to wear!  I must remember to charge up my camera.  (Oh, and for the benefit of Row: Fraser's band is playing!  If I get to chat to him I'll give him your love ;) )

Hm.  I've just remembered I'm yet to say anything about what went on in Ireland.  Funny how when you make it so that you should do something, you no longer want to do it... It seems now there's not that much to say, other than it was jolly fun.  We played Cluedo, I lost.  We played Scrabble... I lost.  We played Scrabble again... I don't like Scrabble now.  Heh I'm terrible at it ><  I'm afraid I got gloomy enough at my losing the second game that Manda, Danielle and Debra got me a little card and a ladybird classic 'The Three Musketeers' to cheer me up.  I love my sisters ^^  Bless them for putting up with my crazy so well.  We did lots of wondering around Enniskillen.  And one particular day we went over the border to a place I cannot spell (er.. Streedagh?) in order to go to the beach.  Danielle and I did some climbing on rocks and sand dunes, and some photography.  Debra did some sand-sculpture apparently.  I witnessed icky translucent-white sand fleas.  And then, around the other side of the beach, Manda and I went paddling - a jolly escapade in which I got my jeans quite damp.  We had a barbeque amongs the sand dunes, which turns out is lovely if you enjoy sandy food, sandy cider and general sandy everything.  We moved fairly quickly onto some grass.  On one particular evening Manda and Debra went upstairs to watch Heathcliffe (the musical version of Wuthering Heights starring Cliff Richard - I am NOT making this up... :s) while Danielle and I pusued a much more sensible evening's viewing in the form of Midsomer Murders.  And got drunk, which is the LAW for when Danielle and I hang out ^^.
During the course of the holiday the ladies taught Debs and I how to play book reviews, which works really well when there are four people with pens, paper, wine and slightly warped minds.  It goes thus:
Book's Title --> fold over to hide and pass to the right --> subtitle/tagline --> fold and pass --> Author ---> fold pass -->Publisher --> fold pass --> Review 1 --> fold pass --> Review 2.
The result is frequently hilariously mangled and insane.  We did something similar with movies, but found the books funnier for the most part.  Even though the movies did open up the possibility of such gems as 'starring Bruce Willis as Tinkerbell'.
If my friends can be persuaded I will totally be playing this game in uni ^^

Also: I saw Dark Knight last night!  Words pretty much fail me... it was spectacular!  The Joker did completely steal the film, as promised.  I haven't seen every film Heath Ledger has made, but I've seen a few and don't think it's unfair to say that the Joker is his best work.  Making it yet more frustrating and upsetting that he died - in acting terms he was at the top of his game and had so much potential.  If he'd lived, who knows what he could have done?  But i don't want to go on and on about that.  I'm just loving the new Batman franchise in all its dark and intense glory - Dark Knight is coming perilously close to knocking Batman Returns off the topspot in my list of Katie's Favourite Batman Movies.

For future reference, before the new films said list was:
Batman Returns
Batman
The cheesy 60's Batman Film with Adam West
The one with Val Kilmer
The ones that I can't remember very well with George Clooney

And now it is:
Batman Returns AND Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Batman
The cheesy Adam West One
Val Kilmer one
Er.. Whatever.

I do wonder where they're going to go next.  I won't lie to you - I'm excited.  I wonder if the comment about the improved-mobility Bat suit being protective against cats is a subtle hint that Catwoman is on the horizon?  It might just be a throw away line.  I wouldn't blame them for leaving doing Catwoman for a while as the more distance between Batman and the godawful Halle Berry thing the better... but then again, they might decide to just go for it in the hopes of obliterating any memory of that mess.  Anyway, if they do decide to bring Catwoman is, you know it's going to be awesome!
I have just one more thing to add about Batman before I shut up babbling: to my horror, there was a troop of Scouts on an outing in our screen.  Some of them were very young.  Who's idea was that?!  I'm willing to bet a plethora of mums had extra bed-laundry to do this morning.  DK is a scary, scary film... not very wholesome and Scout-friendly if you ask me.
