I am overcome with many of the feelings on the soon-coming end of my show, (Smallville). So to help myself (and maybe some of you) through this, I propose a.........

She settles in a little town just outside of Paris. It makes sense, of course, that she finds herself here again. This place perhaps is her favorite in-between. In her memories, it’s taken on a sort of golden timelessness so she comes back every now and again. She had fun here, she laughed, she painted in cobble-stone squares until it was too dark to see and there was nothing but silhouettes and the dull gleam of cigarettes at dusk. She even fell in love.
How much of that has become better than it was at the time, she doesn’t think on too deeply. But she’s here and she’s enjoying it.
-
It’s strange but familiar having to move around like everyone else does after five or six years. A good sort of familiar. To run and feel tired, to sleep the whole night through.
She likes it.
-
She meets Luc at a café outside of an art festival. It’s something of a cliché. She’s grown fond of those though, there’s something comforting in things that are typical-in just being typical and not trying so hard to be special or different or anything other than what she is.
So when he asks to buy her a cup of coffee and compliments her on her smile, she says yes, tucks her hair behind her ear.
It’ll be anything but serious. What it will be is fun and she values a whole lot more than she did when she was younger. -
She’s holding the white gold chain, the delicate links slide sinuously across her palm and through her fingers, the crystal gleams pale white. Such a long time ago-she remembers all those faces. There was a time she thought she’d never be able to let go of all that. In some ways she hasn’t, not entirely. She writes; she talked to Chloe a few weeks ago; the last time she was in Metropolis tracking down a missing piece from the gallery, she even found herself chasing a story with Lois of all people. She chuckles under her breath; she wasn’t going to forget that experience any time soon.
But in every way that matters, she has. It’s as simple that.
So when she opens Le Monde and there’s a picture of Clark, his cape trailing, the small figure in the sky, the red, blue and yellow colors melting into each other to a faded pink blur, she feels nothing but affection, quiet as a cloud.
She likes it.

So, I’m sorry about this, idek. For some reason fic seems to either demonize Lana, or completely leach any personality, sexuality, individuality from her as a character and make her story, even years after she’s left Smallville, all about Clark. I tried to avoid that pretty deliberately because like she moves on, fandom. She’s not sitting there twenty years from now stroking old photographs in a rocking chair and raving madly about her long lost high school sweetheart. At least that’s the canon I choose to believe, lol. So yeah, bear with me.

Don't be sorry! This is exactly what I wanted. Even the few fics that I do enjoy are always all about Lana coming back to Smallville/Metropolis and how it effects Clark. BUT I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LANA IS DOING. So this was perfect. Thank you!

I loved it!!!
This was exactly what I needed today because frankly....my rage meter was pushed to the brink yesterday after Brian Peterson's interviews.
First with absolutely zero mention of Lois in any of their comments (and the whole "the show is about Clark, Chloe and Martha" bullshit) and then with him basically admitting that they did nothing to get Kristen to come back for the series finale. So basically...we never get to see how Lana is doing.
Rage, Maggs. Rage. I make no apologies about the fact that I appreciate Lana. It does not in any way detract from how much I love and adore Lois. But Lois and Lana are my top two women in Smallville.
And yesterday, my rage meter for both of them was on high alert.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait--what did BP say now, oh my god, I feel so out of the loop but I don't want to get into the loop or my rage-o-meter might go in to overdrive.
And then I read the rest of your comment the show is about Clark, Chloe and Martha -- WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? I have no words. None. I'm sorry. I can't even compute this. Fuck you very much, Brian Peterson, sorry for the French, well actually, I'm not. This is just appalling. Appalling. Ludicrous.

Thank you, I love the women on this show for the most part--particularly when I don't listen to the fandom crazies or the showrunners for some of them (ie. Chloe). I love Lana and Lois. They deserve all the fic in the world because if BP really said that, it's clear to me that the writers fail to see just how special BOTH characters and their narratives are. Oh, but I hate everything.
I just found this and am absolutely blown away. I have been a HUGE fan of Lana since I started roleplaying as her and subsequently writing fic about mid-season seven. The real disappointment I had when getting into fandom was finding something to read that was anywhere near as satisfying as this is.
I think your characterization of her is perfectly on spot. There are just so many wonderful character notes that I love--the adventurous sex, Paris and painting and so many other things. You're right, her existence has never been all about Clark, nor has she ever been the villain some make her out to be. She's a very multifaceted character and you've captured so much of what I love about her. Thank you.
