Happy New Year & Multi-fandom Picspams

Dec 31, 2010 19:40

I just wanted to wish all of you wonderful, kind, brilliant, inspired, inspiring, continuously supportive, always intelligent, squee-worthy friends an absolutely WONDERFUL NEW YEAR!

Can you believe that it's already here? Time is frightening that way, I think, as I get older the faster it all seems to unravel or ravel, whichever one you choose, I change my mind daily.

Anyway, it's been a quite the year, hasn't it? By parts lovely, and I've learned so much from so many people, I've grown just a wee bit, been inspired with my work and my writing and in different areas of my life. I got a visa! After my brief moment of fearing I'd become an illegal immigrant. I've gotten more confident as a professional and I'm so lucky that the work I do is so in line with a) my passion: women and women's rights; b) my philosophy on development and building rights etc.; c) my passion for using writing creatively in this particular field (not always but a good amount). So that's exciting. I need to work more on my writing and just established an hour each day, I kept with it for some of the year, but real life consumed me and I got sloppy on some days. So reinstating that for next year, not as a goal, but just as something that's so NECESSARY to my state of mind and state of heart. When I don't write anything, even just a diary entry, or just a page of something, I feel very weird. So, none of that.

But, sadly, or realistically, there have been some down sides to it all. I lost someone very close to me in earlier this year and it's incredible and frightening for me to think that he will not see this new year, or the next. That he won't see any year at all after this one is over. So this night, I will be toasting him when the clock turns. I'm a spiritual (can read: fanciful and I like to think ... imaginative person), so I like to think that he's off somewhere with other spirits, jaunting about and being happy in a way that he couldn't in real life. But that's whatever. I'm so glad to have made it through, so thankful. I also need to work on my friendship skills, I isolated myself a bit this year, for various and sundry reasons, so this--again isn't a resolution because I hate those (too much pressure) but is something I need for my state of equilibrium and emotional contentment, methinks.

Anyway, it's been an exciting time in fandom for me as well. This time last year, the only show I watched with fannish glee was Smallville. I watched other TV shows, obviously, but I have no desire to think about something like 'Glee' beyond the watching except when I rant about it to friends. And then, many of you witnessed, my moment mid-year when it hit me that Smallville would be over and there'd be nothing I'd write fanfic for, no late-night discussions about ships and themes and ranty rants. So, I decided to watch other things, and what a world! Best decision ever and I've found new fannish loves.

Misfits (this show was made for me, most of you know already why), Being Human (Annie, I love Annie to distraction but I adore all three now four main characters like it's my job and there is nothing like a show that examines the human condition in all it's shoddy misery, and what it means to be human, it's amazing), Merlin (I know but it's all about Gwen for me), Law & Order: UK (need to catch up on all of that desperately), Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles (I know, it's over but damn if that isn't some of the BEST television I've EVER seen, such a bloody brilliant show, I can't even), The Vampire Diaries (it boggles my mind that I got so attached to a show with a bloody love triangle as its selling point, I hate those with a burning passion but it holds my heart in other ways so I can mostly forgive it)--and many more! I've been watching a lot of TV, I will probably reduce it since it's a weird thing for me.

I also discovered Tumblr, which I don't think I'll ever migrate to permanently but so many pretty things there, lol.

It's been a great year and I can't wait for the next!

Anyway, to celebrate the New Year and to get started on one of my new projects for life: making art, I made little picspams of mostly my favorite women characters this year but also two others for Misfits, just because I had nothing better to do apparently. I'm not very good at it yet and there are some (read: the Katherine one, the Bonnie one, the Elena-Caroline one i.e. all...?) that are a bit of a mess. But I only started doing this on Wednesday, as in, I'd never even seen Paint Shop Pro until then, so I'm cutting myself some slack, lol! It's so much fun to experiment and I'm excited for the point where I'll be able to develop really beautiful things.

So, no more rambling, if you've stuck it out---you deserve a hug and a kiss and a glass of Bailey's!

Big hugs, and happy New Year!

Love, Magali/Lady Gawain or however else you know me.

PICSPAMMY GOODNESS *sort of

(in no particular order of preference, some--not all--of my girls this year and some etc. stuff. i will not judge if you laugh)

Alisha Dixon & Kelly Bailey, Misfits

Elena Gilbert & Caroline Forbes, The Vampire Diaries

Bonnie Bennett, The Vampire Diaries
(in case you're wondering why this is all in sepia. the color version was so awful because I messed up a lot and it came out all grainy so I just made it sepia to make it fake-vintage. I'm sure none of you are fooled, lol)

Katerina Petrova, The Vampire Diaries
(this poor soul coincided with my discovery of textures and you can see, I went a little cuckoo with them. hopefully Katherine forgives me)

Gwen (Guinevere), Merlin

Lois Lane, Smallville

Annie Sawyer, Being Human
she has the best face ever!

Okay, so technically this is years overdue but I only saw the show this year so it counts.
Sarah Connor, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

And while I'm at it...

Cameron, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
The list felt incomplete w/o a cyborg.

Now onto random ones i.e. my ship of all ships right now, Alisha and Simon from Misfits

Life is so much dark and light
Day cannot exist without a night
And you should not slip away from me
I have a heart that’s full of light to be shared
On this night, feel my hands, feel my love

-Two Planets, Bat for Lashes

The room smells of curdled milk, sour and sweet, a carton left too long at the back of the fridge. The first one he sees is Nikki, lying still and silent on the bed with white strings dribbling down the side of her chin. He walks further in. And then he sees her. It’s like his heart is too big for his chest, for his entire body, and it hurts to breathe…
A 'drabble and picspam i.e. a ficspam. I thought it was clever. **

Yes, I know it's grimy for some reason, not sure what I did with my layering but this scene, you guys. THIS SCENE!
Cordelia, Angel, Waiting in the Wings, ATS

the product of supreme boredom and my bid to understand text and picture art. Not good and the off-centeredness is driving me insane. INSANE. But whatever, they are adorable.
