Corona Faire, Weekend Two

May 18, 2009 23:37

It sounds like I missed a lot of fun Friday and Saturday. Oh well. Tristi made arnica for an herbal demo. Wally the Spider apparently made a reappearance. Ravenwood made kabobs Saturday night, which sounded yummy. Dave put together the fixings for breakfast burritos for folks. Good times!

My Sunday started off with me realizing a few offramps from faire that I had forgotten my pass. Not good. I chose to go on to faire site, hoping the promoters would have some policy in place for stupidity. At the very least I could drop off the water, ice, and other stuff I was bringing out. No mercy for me. I drove back home to avoid paying money. I made it back before the start of faire too.
I was over at the braiding booth when the opening gun went off. Bri's boys seem to have decided who gets which shirts. Now I just have to get a cloak made for Bri's daughter, amongst other sewing projects. After a few errands I headed back to camp, so I was there in time to see Connor and Dave's demo on armor and putting armor on. Captain Anton and Dave were the one's getting the armor on. Connor did most of the talking, explaining about the various pieces, what they were for, the history, etc. They all did a good job.
All too soon it was time for battle. Time for me to shoot arrows again. Captain Anton stepped wrong and wrenched his bad knee, which scared all of us. He spent most of the afternoon sitting, drinking ale with an ice pack on his knee. We had some of our kids come over to tell him that he "was grounded."
After I cooled off I picked up some smoothies for my daughter and I. We had archery range duty from 3-4. Did I mention that it was bloody hot? The temperatures were in the 90's. It was fine if one was in the shade. There was a nice afternoon breeze that made things quite livable. But out in the sun? Bleh!
We finished out shift and it was time for archery tournament. My daughter beat me. By quite a bit. I'm blaming the heat and the fact that my first arrow caught the fabric in my head wrap and went down. Yeah, that's it. Out of the running we headed over to Rogues Cove for their cannon demo. I took pictures again. It took longer than usual because the end was delayed by a handfasting in the beer garden next to Rogues. They asked us to save a final volley for once the ceremony was over. But first the horse drawn cart with the bride had to come and go. For some reason horses don't seem to like cannons going off near them...
Once that was finally over we sat around in the shade at Rogues for a while. We only left when we realized that it was only a half hour until closing time. Opps! Closing notes, the camp put away for the week, a bunch of us headed over to the same bar/restaurant for dinner. Still really good. Drove home and collapsed.

Other stuff: Having JD as a tentmate is still wonderful. She is such a doll. Our three chefs (plus Jason) missed winning the Iron Chef contest by 1/2 point! I'm sure there is more, but I'm wiping out again.

Next weekend is the big 3 day event, with Memorial Day being the hardest and best day of the run.
