Montreal’s Fiery Females Invade Irene’s Sunday June 11th
The Hot Springs, Kickers and Les Allumettes
Sunday June 11th @ Irene’s Pub 885 Bank Street -Licensed- 8pm
$7
Two bands, one drummer. Montreal’s The Hot Springs are bringing themselves, their new drummer, Anne Gauthier and Anne’s band, Kickers to Ottawa. Anne will be earning her keep by playing sets with both bands. Ottawa’s french immersion sweethearts Les Allumettes will open. It will all take place at Irene’s Pub Sunday June 11th.
Fresh from their performance at SXSW, Montreal’s “more brute than cute” The Hot Springs are pleased to introduce interim drummer, Anne Gauthier, as their beloved beatmaker Karine Lauzon has gone on maternity leave. Named “one of Montreal’s most exportable bands” by the Montreal Mirror, The Hot Springs are Giselle Webber on guitar and lead vocals, Fred Sauvé on bass, Remy Nadeau-Aubin on guitar and Anne Gauthier on drums. The indie-rock background of the two boys in the band adds a pretty little balance to the raw-edge of the girl team. Behind the Hot Springs' sweet hooks and sing-song melodies is a punk heartbeat, an intensity embedded in their serrated riffage and Webber's sexy snarl. The Hot Springs have played with Malajube, Pretty Girls Make Graves, North of America, Chinese Stars, Ted Leo and The Pharmacists, Lovely Feathers, and Priestess. Hot on the heels of their ‘Rock Partouze’ EP released in 2005, The Hot Springs are currently in the studio working on their upcoming full-length release, produced by Bionic's Jonathan Cummins.
Montreal’s Kickers sound like Fugazi (circa The Argument), The Carpenters, The Cars and the B52s all mixed up in a rock blender. They are a duo who share vocal duties, with Anne Gauthier (of the Frenetics) on drums and Victoria Morrison (ex-Letlowns) on guitar. Acclaimed for their serpentine guitar licks and thunderous rhythm, Kickers have been likened to a ‘math-rock boxing match’. Kickers released a self-titled EP this past February on the label www.takethishammer.com
Les Allumettes play melodic rock with a fiery spirit. Influences include punk rock, polka dots and french immersion education. They are made up of guitarist and singer, Jordanna guitarist, Nina, bassist & singer, Natasha and drummer, Andy. The band formed in fall of 2004 and has played shows with Les Georges Leningrad, The Golden Famille, The Hot Springs, Republic of Safety and The New Spring line. They also toured with the Maynards and Cougar party in November 2005, which included a show in Toronto as part of the Wavelength series.
