The kidlet played at her first high school football game last night. Sort of. As in, it was sort of a football game: it had three rain delays (four if you count the fact that the third was two half-hour delays!) and almost got canceled for lightning. After the last rain delay, the bands from both teams decided that lightning + brass instruments = let's go home! So she got to play the school song and the national anthem, but no one did any marching.
At one point, hubby and I drove home, got umbrellas, jackets, and towels, then drove back again and just sat on the stands to enjoy the storm's light show. A little while later, she called us to let us know the bands had left and to pick her up at her school. Which was fine with us, as when we left the home team's only saving grace was that they don't score negative numbers.
Long story short, we didn't get home till eleven, and because she still had homework, the kidlet didn't get to bed till almost midnight. When I set up the coffee pot last night, she asked me to make enough for her, too!
My English class yesterday was hot. No, literally. Half the upper floor of the school was sweltering, the other half and most of the downstairs was frozen. They didn't get it fixed till just before the last class of the day. One kid said he felt sorry for the teachers, because at least the students got to move rooms.
My loving and loyal daughter turned purple and studiously ignored me as she walked past my classroom on the way to her English class. Hubby and I both smacked her for that later on. She even admits that last year she was told several times by classmates that her mom is really nice. Hopefully at some point she'll realize that stopping in the hall to say hi won't kill her. Especially as I really do remember what it's like, and I would never dream of being maternally affectionate in front of the rest of the school. I had two other French horn players in one of my class periods, they knew who I was, and were perfectly fine about the whole thing. We keep telling her that high school is a whole different animal from middle school. One of these days, maybe she'll believe us.
The weather is supposed to be wet and stormy for at least the next week. My knees and insomnia agree with the forecast. Have learned that only taking one Tylenol PM with my Elavil actually works better, as a full dose can, oddly enough, make me hyper rather than tired. After I gave up on hubby's snoring, I crashed on the couch with one PM pill, and slept like a log. Except for when Butch wanted snuggles. And out. And more snuggles. And I'm such a pushover.
It's Friday and I don't seem to be working! I get to go to water aerobics today!
