Working today at the kidlet's school. (We replaced the car battery last night, so I can drive!) English III and English III AP. It's lovely when the teacher leaves a looong set of text instructions on the website. Also extremely rare. And from these instructions, she seems to be an example of that sadly endangered species--an English teacher with good grammar and spelling!

The kidlet's English class (not the one I'm subbing for) has started studying the ancient Sumerians. I said, "Oh, you're studying Gilgamesh!" Turns out different teams broke off to study different aspects of the culture, and the kidlet volunteered for the group studying the Gilgamesh story. Wheee!

She went to her first Sci-Fi Club meeting last night and had a ball, though she really needs to read more, y'know, science fiction. We handed her over a bunch of our sci-fi books and told her to get to it. Sadly, she's the only hard-core Star Wars fan of the group. They apparently do a monthly movie night, watching 50's and 60's sci-fi movies, so I imagine she'll get her first experience with MST3K-ing. Although I remember watching the original Night of the Living Dead when I was her age, and have not been able to handle zombies since.

According to Cracked.com, this means I'm afraid of crowds. Which... honestly, yes. This is why, when hubby called to ask about going to a U2 concert, I told him to take the kidlet instead. I hate crowds. Funny, that, because I work in public schools, surrounded by crowds of vicious, shambling, brain-eating teenagers.

There is an ad for Halo 3: ODST on the sidebar on my posting page. Have clicked. Am happy. Sgt. Johnson is yummy. Probably will not own it till it drops to the $40 range, because we hardly ever buy brand-new-price games. But the ad says "Pre-order to unlock Sgt. Johnson," which makes me drool. Sgt. Johnson is yummy. I wonder how (or if) they'll handle the, er, rocky relationship between the Master Chief and the drop troopers. Also, Sgt. Johnson is yummy.

The young'un plays in the marching band at her first game tonight. I wouldn't mind going, except, well, football. And hubby won't let me bring a book.

Hope everyone has a happy Thursday!
