“I... just... really, Lex?” Clark knew his face was turning scarlet. He pushed his thick, horn-rimmed glasses up on his nose.
“What?” Lex turned with a smile spreading across his face. One that was so pleased and in love that it was hard to chastise him. “I thought it was a nice gesture. Don’t you like them?”
Clark sighed.
“Good. God. Damn,” Perry swore as he stepped out of his office. “Is this a newsroom or a flowershop?”
“Smallville’s new boyfriend had all the flowers in the state delivered here,” Lois explained dryly. She took one daisy and tucked it into her hair before returning to work.
“Well, get them out of here!” Perry slammed his door shut after him.
Clark sighed again as he saw Lex’s face fall. He looked back at the flowers, and a wrinkle of doubt now marred Lex’s smooth, pale forehead.
“It was a nice gesture,” Clark assured him. He slipped his arms around Lex’s waist and gave him a firm kiss. “But how is anything I do ever going to compare to this? Or the flight to that little place in France you know? Or that watch you had made for me from a professional from Russia?”
“I don’t do these things expecting you to do the same. I do them because...” Lex glared at one of Clark’s coworkers staring at them. Then he met Clark’s eye again, and lowered his voice. “Because I love you. All I want in return is you.”
Clark said nothing, but pulled Lex tighter and pressed their foreheads together and kissed him again.
“Okay, maybe... it is a little over the top,” Lex admitted.
“I think I have something to show you that might top this...”
“Oh?”
Clark grinned and watched Lex’s eyes with a supreme fondness of his silly, extravagant genius boyfriend. “How are you with heights?”
