completely snagged this from
brandi1498 cos, you know, i'm bored and not really doing much. so here we go. not tagging anyone, but feel free to do this if you like. i'll be nice and hide it behind cut so you don't have to look at everything unless you want to. someone please make me turn the damn tv off...
You have received this note because someone thinks you are a literary geek. Copy the questions into your own note, answer the questions, and tag any friends who would appreciate the quiz, including the person who sent you this. Don't bother trying to italicize your book titles. We know you want to.
1) What author do you own the most books by? i'm going to have to say Laurell K. Hamilton. i'm pretty sure that's right. um... do duplicates count?
2) What book do you own the most copies of? i think that would have to be Interview With a Vampire by Anne Rice. i have two different paperbacks and a hard cover. one of the paperbacks is a first print edition from eons ago.
3) Did it bother you that both those questions ended with prepositions? not in the slightest
4) What fictional character(s) are you secretly in love with? is there room to list them all? i mean, seriously. i'm the girl with 19 Muses. and more than likely counting. i'll just let you pick and choose, shall i?
5) What book have you read the most times in your life (excluding picture books read to children; i.e., Goodnight Moon does not count)? you know, i can't be entirely certain. i've read so damned many books that i tend to forget these things. hell, i even forget if i've read them, sometimes.
6) What was your favorite book when you were ten years old? how the shit am i supposed to remember that? i think it was a kid's version of Helen Keller's biography. but i could be wrong. i am the person who was fascinated by Lucrecia Borgia as a child, so anything's possible.
7) What is the worst book you've read in the past year? i don't read bad books. ever.
8) What is the best book you've read in the past year? i've read over 100 books in the past year. how the fuck am i supposed to remember? though i suppose, if i had to name one... um... never mind. i can't pick one.
9) If you could force everyone you tagged to read one book, what would it be? i don't force. i persuade, nag and annoy until they give in and read what i recommend. and, to be honest, most everyone i've done that to has read the books i've recommended.
10) Who deserves to win the next Nobel Prize for Literature? to be honest, i don't think i'm qualified to make that judgement. though i think i'd have to go with Jim Butcher for his Codex Alera series. i'm so hooked on that.
11) What book would you most like to see made into a movie? tough call. i've seen too many of my favorite books get butchered when they became movies. though there's a "movie" in the works for my favorite series. so we'll see...
12) What book would you least like to see made into a movie? again... tough call. the same series i'd love to see made into a movie is the one i'd least like to see made into a movie. the characters mean that much to me. and i don't want to see them slaughtered.
13) Describe your weirdest dream involving a writer, book, or literary character. dun dream. so there's nothing for this one
14) What is the most lowbrow book you've read as an adult? nothing i read is that bad.
15) What is the most difficult book you've ever read? i think it was Faustus. oy! talk about a brain killer. it looks like they translated directly from German to English, word for word, without restructuring sentences. i read the same paragraph for half an hour before i gave up.
16) What is the most obscure Shakespeare play you've seen? i'm not a theater person much. so i've never seen Shakespeare on the stage.
17) Do you prefer the French or the Russians? considering i've never actually read anything from the French or Russian greats, i'm not able to state which onei prefer.
18) Roth or Updike? i've never read either one of them.
19) David Sedaris or Dave Eggers? never read either one of them
20) Shakespeare, Milton, or Chaucer? well, considering the only one i think i've read out of the three is Shakespeare...
21) Austen or Eliot? never touch the stuff.
there should have been a #22, but i guess it was too risque for the quiz and was left out. so i'll answer it anyway. yes, i read lots of kinky porn while whipping small gerbils for sexual thrills...
23) What is your favorite novel? hmmm... probably a toss up between The Killing Dance and Obsidian Butterfly. i'm sure you all can figure out why that is.
24) Play? i've only seen one play in my life. My Fair Lady. Rex Harrison is Professor Henry Higgins
25) Poem? either The Raven or The Bells by Edgar Allen Poe
26) Essay? i hated writing them in school. why would i like reading them now? get real.
27) Short story? define short. probably anything by Poe. Masque of the Red Death was always good.
28) Work of nonfiction? do i look like a non-fiction type of gal? seriously...
29) Who is your favorite writer? toss up between Laurell K. Hamilton and Jim Butcher
30) Who is the most overrated writer alive today? um... since i haven't read everything by every writer alive today, dunno if i can make that call.
31) What is your desert island book? wait. you mean i can only have one book? how would i survive? i couldn't pick just one.
32) Who is your favorite critic or scholar? i don't pay attention to critics and scholars are on a completely different level than i am.
33) Who is your favorite philosopher? i don't do philosophy. seriously. it hurts my brain.
34) Who is your favorite public intellectual? hmmm. i didn't think there were many people who put much emphasis on being publicly intellectual these days. never mind that intellect is all in the eyes of the beholder.
35) And... what are you reading right now? surprisingly, that would be nothing. i know. what the hell is the matter with me? i've always got a book going...
wow. even more useless information you didn't want to know. aren't you happy?
and, just to let you know, i haven't forgotten about the writing meme and the pairings everyone has given me. i'll get to them. eventually. at the moment, my brain is seriously lacking in the ability to come up with any kind of idea so they'll be a while. not ot mention that a certain Muse (who shall remain nameless) does not want to give any of my attention up. spoiled brat. anyway. i'll get to them.
one of these days...
