25 - Music - Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
i need noise. i have to have noise.

music has been in my life for probably as long as books have. so, for me, words and music kind of go hand in hand. so when i write, i like to have music going. sometimes, the faster the better. because the rapid beat makes my fingers practically fly over the keyboard. (hello, Gary!) and, in extreme cases where i really need to make my fingers and brains go, i listen to bagpipes. yeah. don't ask. i can't explain it.

i don't tend to make playlists because my mood isn't dictated by the music. nor is the music dictated by my mood. i can write really hardcore, sick, perverse stuff to the softest music simply because that's what i chose to listen to before i sat down and started writing. and i can write the softest fluff to the loudest music you can find. now, that isn't to say that i don't have songs that i don't equate with certain stories i'm working on or even certain characters. i've just never felt a need to make a playlist for any one song or any one character in order to put myself in the right mindset.

i can write when there's no music, when the television is on and provides a backdrop of noise, but i try not to do that as i have a tendency to forget what i'm doing and focus on the show i've put on. and i've found that when i do that, i kind of slip away from writing and let my brain go where it will.

music is my first choice and is almost as old a friend to me as the written word. i listen to it when i sleep and when i'm writing. its almost as much a part of who i am as my hair or my style of dress. so it does play an important role in my writing.

if the computer is my canvas and the words i put down the art i'm trying to create, then music is the brush that helps me paint my picture for the world to see. i live it, eat it, breathe it.
