Last Wednesday I had something funny happen that I have to share. John had taken Kailee for the second day in a row to finish her kindergarden registration. He had dropped me off at the library before going so that I could get on the computer to check my mail. It was almost a full month since I had internet access and I didn’t want my email accounts to shut down. Damn hotmail and their 30 day login limit.
Anyway, I realized that the library didn’t open for another hour. So I sat on the steps in front of the building waiting as paitently as I could as my butt went numb. I smiled at people or said hi. This is something that I always do when walking or what not. I noticed that the people on this side of the river is not as friendly as where we used to live. Only a few people made eye contact or said good morning. So needless to say no conversation to pass the time. Not even with the old guy that was also hanging around the front of the library. (He did say hi later after we were heading inside. People are odd.)
I kept checking the clock, it was about five minutes until they were due to open. A guy was walking by. I said hello and even though he took a couple more steps forward and said good morning, he then back-tracked and came onto the first step (I was at the top of them), he processed to lean in, extend his hand and introduce himself. Very strange but I gave my name and started talking to him. I told him why I was sitting on the steps (I didn’t want to seem like it was a normal thing for me to do). Said I was new to the area and didn’t know the library’s hours. And somehow I ended up mentioning that my ex had taken our daughter to register for kindergarden. He said his sister had taken his niece today as well. So I knew what school he was talking about cause it was the only school district doing it that day. And since it wasn’t the town we were in he raised a brow and asked if I lived by myself. No but once school starts she will be staying with her dad during the week cause we didn’t like this town’s school district. It seemed like someone else talking cause it was the first time I had called John my "“ex” and spoke of us in past tense. He seemed even more interested. I felt a little uncomfortable. Thinking of myself as single after seven years is a hard thing to do. Luckily they opened the doors to the library at that moment. I stated that I should be going, grabbed my purse and held on the railing saying, “now if I can only get up.” My back was killing me and my ass numb at this point. ~laughs~ He asked if I had a bad back. I straightened myself, my belly now plainly visible and said. “Pregnancy will do that to you.” He clearly looked shocked. He looked at my stomach then back to my face. “Baby could come any day now.” It took all my power not to burst out laughing. Instead calmly I said it was nice to meet him and to have a nice day. He returned with the same words and turned still a little dumbfounded. I know I have been carrying low but it was funny that he didn’t notice at all. Of course I was slumped over a little to help my lower back some. I also had on a regular T-shirt instead of a materity shirt and it is very baggy. Still can’t help but laugh at it even now. Poor guy. ~lmao~
