Salem's Lot by Stephen King
427 pages
February 1 - 27, 2006
This was my pick for the book club as February was my month to choose. The group doesn't really read the same genre of books I do. So I figured Stephen King was main stream enough for most people. After going over most of his classics to find one that most people haven't read, we settled on this one. Of course I have a small obession ~grins~ with vampires so I was curious to see how King would write them.
The book was pretty good. Though I did notice similiarites with another book of his (a newer one) that I had read. Bag of Bones is my favorite of his so far. But both that book and Salem's Lot has an author that goes to a small town, falls in love with a woman that dies one way or another, and ends up with an orphaned child. I think he has been recycling his storylines with just a little bit of tweeking?
Anyway the story wasn't too bad. I do have to say that I am not a fan of that "view" of the vampire. I am picky I know. My beloved vampire as mindless killers and that's it? ~shrugs~ What can I say. Nonetheless it was good. I just didn't like the ending. Too open-ended for my taste. You can assume how it will end....but I like something more final....more solid.
