Surprise Baby Shower

Mar 05, 2006 21:26

Tonight I was to have dinner with the other moms from our playgroup for a book club meet. Though we only talk about the book briefly. It is more to get out of the house and have a moms' night out more than anything. I had picked February's book, Salem's Lot by Stephen King. I will write my review later. Only myself and one other lady read it. A third was still reading it. So I was a little shocked that seven people (including me) were planning to come to the dinner. I thought that we were just having more of a moms' get together than anything else.

Well John drove me to the restuarant. We were about 5-10 minutes early. I go in and all six of them are already there. There were balloons tied to the chair at the head of the table. One said "Baby Shower" on it. I was a little confused to say the least. I don't like being the last to arrive. Gina then points about ten feet away to a table with a cake and gifts on it. I was speechless. And that isn't easy to do, trust me. I know my face had to turn red. They got a good laugh out of surprising me.

We talked a bit, ate, talked a little more. Then while the waitresses cut the cake and passed it out. I opened the gifts. First off, I did not expect anything. But they did way more than they had to. Each got me a couple outfits and more. I now have diapers, wipes, pacifers, baby toys, baby wash and a bunch of blue clothes in varies sizes. I had wanted a blue newborn outfit for Baby James' hospital picture and to bring home in. Now I have a few to choose from. I also got a new diaper bag and a smaller bag that they filled with coupons for baby items. I have no clue how they put it together but I was pleasantly shocked. They even pitched in and paid for my dinner. They said that they wanted to do it early because since I had some issues with premature labor with Kailee and even had her a couple weeks early, they wanted to make sure I got the stuff before the baby arrived.

One thing I felt bad about was that I told John that it would probably be about a hour and half. Well with the baby shower, it took longer. So he had waited outside for awhile before I called him to let him know that I was ready. Gina had thought of trying to go behind my back to contact John to give him a heads up but couldn't find a way without tipping me off. John looked shocked as well at the amount of stuff while he was loading up the car. I apologized more than a couple times to him. I should have called him earlier to let him know that I would be later. He just laughed and said he was glad I had a good time. Overall I had a great time!
