I had no idea that this had taken place (this article is about a year old) but it's really, really awesome. Basically John Lassiter got Disney to almost completely cut out the direct-to-video sequels just to stop cheapening the actual animated features.

Wall-E is, for serious, one of the best movies I've seen in ages and ages. Going to see it would be doing yourself a HUGE favor.
