(no subject)
Christmas and New Year's were good... they just went by so fast. We spent both holidays with our families. Shane's mom really liked the webcam we got her, which was really exciting to me because I put a lot of thought into her present. New Year's day was good until that evening when Shane's mom called to tell us that on their way down the interstate they had to pull over so Shane's dad could throw up (he'd had the flu for the last several days) and then passed out while he was throwing up, so he was in the hospital. And he had apparently had a seizure in the ambulance on the way there. After several tests (including a cat scan), they couldn't find anything wrong with him and sent him home late that night. But it was still quite scary.
He's not my favorite person on the planet, but for Shane's sake I hope he's going to be okay. They don't really have a good relationship either (Shane's much closer with his mom, and Shane hates his dad for cheating on her a few years ago), but he's still Shane's father and I know it would devastating to their family if something happened to him.
Umm in other news we went up to the DC area to go apartment hunting, and have two places that we really love. One's in VA (Alexandria) and one's in MD (Rockville). We had a lot of fun though and we're both really excited about moving up there now that is seems much more real. The funniest part of the day was when we were waiting to tour a place that seemed really nice and luxurious (a bit out of our price range even), and Shane discovered a homeless guy cleaning himself in the lobby bathroom... LOL. We stayed for the tour to be nice, but that place is obviously not one of our top two. We're going back to MD on Tuesday so Shane can apply for the DC plumber union's apprentice program, and while he's doing that I'm going to check out a few more places. I really hope Shane gets into this program... it would be so great to have a job waiting for him, especially one that pays fair wages and has benefits (since his current job has neither). But they only take 90 people a year... so we'll see.
That's about all that's new with me I guess. Actually the main reason I decided to write today was because I've been tagged to do a survey, so here you are AJ:

01.) What are your nicknames?
Umm Laurie (most of my family calls me this), Laurie-poo, L-stod, Babe
02.) How do you style your hair?
My hair is naturally curly, and that's how I leave it most of the time... I do the gel, spray & scrunch routine which is quick and easy. Sometimes when the mood strikes me and I have the time, I straighten it with a flat iron.
03.) What was the last thing you watched on TV?
I watched Mamma Mia on DVD with Shane's mom & sister-in-law last night. Does that count?
04.) Who/What is your favourite old time black & white comedic show?
I'm going to have to agree with AJ here and say "I Love Lucy."
05.) Did you do anything productive today?
I just woke up at 10, so no.
06.) What was the last book you read?
I just finished "Lord of the Flies" early this week, and am now reading "Animal Farm." My goal is to read all those "classics" that I didn't end up having to read in high school.
07.) Do you nap a lot?
Not really. I wish I napped more.
08.) What is your favorite comfort food?
Pizza and chocolate.
09.) Is there anything that has made you unhappy these days?
Not really. I'm a generally happy person. My life is going really well at the moment, so I have no complaints these days. :-)
10.) What's your favorite dessert?
Anything chcolate, or a cooke dough Blizzard from DQ.
11.) How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Usually about 30 minutes, not counting eating breakfast and making the bed.

Facebook, Myspace, LJ, Msn.com
13.) What's the weather currently like?
COLD. And so windy that one of my neighbor's trees was blown down.
14.) If you could be anywhere else in the world right now, where would you be?
In my own home. Oh, and I'd like to visit Australia someday.
15.) What's the last song that got stuck in your head?
No idea. "Birdhouse in Your Soul" comes to mind.
16.) What's the last movie you saw?
Mamma Mia.
17.) Do you keep toys? BE HONEST.
Depends on what you mean by "toys" .... LOL! Umm I have a couple stuffed animals.
18.) What is your least favorite thing to do that you have to do every day?
Cleaning in general I guess.
19.) Best time of your life?
Hard to nail down just one time. College in general has been really great.
20.) What are you most looking forward to in the coming month?
Embarking on my LAST semester of college. Making money and finishing my wedding plans.
