The Agony and the Ecstasy

I hope that every one had a lovely Thanksgiving. I've been completely out of touch with a lot of people lately and I really need to fix that. Hopefully things will settle down for me in a week or so.

I'm suffering from an extreme bout of insomnia tonight. Which seems typical since I managed to get decent amounts of sleep over the holiday weekend. Annoying, because tomorrow is the day I have to get up very early. This bout with insomnia is most certainly stress induced. Why? The whole no chemo thing with no future chemo date yet set. Also, a MAJOR career change might be about to take place in my life, and I'll probably be determining whether or not it's going to happen tomorrow night after work. Additionally, I've been having strange apocalyptic dreams. How obnoxious.

I cleaned my apartment today!!! (With a lot of help from Jeri. Thank you thank you thank you!!!) It is now fit for company once again. And you all better not be making bets on how long I can keep it clean. I intend to make it through the holidays and my birthday at the very least.

Over my own holiday weekend, I did have time to have some fun, thankfully. Wednesday night a group of us went dancing. I saw all kinds of people I hadn't seen in AGES, some of whom live in New York and LA. There was also a lot of Drama. Some con-artist bitch of a girl drank my drink and those of my friends when we weren't paying attention and stole my Gemma's purse. Luckily, someone in our group noticed and reacquired it. Despite this, it was great to go dancing again! I hadn't been in ages and I used to go dancing at least once a month. I danced oodles and wasn't even sore the next day despite breaking ina new pair of shoes. Go me!

I also saw two movies: Walk the Line and Rent. Both very good, but Walk the Line was particularly spectacular. Joaquin Pheonix and Reese Witherspoon were amazing. They deserve OScar nominations. The fact that they both did all of their own singing blows me away! I learned a lot about Johnny Cash that I didn't know at all. I am a Johnny Cash fan, but you don't need to be to enjoy or follow the movie. I'd go into more detail but I don't want to spoil anything. It was almost a perfect film. My only wish was that they explored more years of Johnny Cash's life. I recommend it to one and all.

As for Rent, I enjoyed it quite a bit but a few things puzzled me. As someone who has seen the play four times, some of the movie's staging was a little peculiar. For instance, if you are not performing to a live audience, you don't need to look/perform off into space when you're having a conversation with someone else on the screen. It is not a play. The cameras should follow the actor, not vice versa. Jesse L. Martin's performance blew me away though! He might even deserve an Oscar, or at least an Oscar nod. Rosario Dawson was good but not anything special. The choreography on the song that takes place on the subway kicked ass!Another odd thing about the movie was that they changed the order of some of the songs around for no apparent reason. Oh, also, a lot of small pieces of spoken dialogue in the film were from songs in the movie. And since I'm so familiar with the soundtrack, it always threw me a bit, because they had to pace the lines so that the rhymes from the soundtrack were not noticeable. This would not be a problem for someone unfamiliar with the play. Also they cut bits of the story that made everything clearer. I saw Rent with Katy, who had never seen the play and she had questions after the movie that ARE answered in the play and only would have taken a moment to explain on screen. But I do recommend the movie since all of this stuff was only noticeable to me because I love the play and have seen it way too many times.

Man alive! I am currently watching The Secret Life of... Steak on Food Network and it is soooooo making my mouth water. I might have to find a steak to eat tomorrow night. And next on is The Secret Life of... Fried Chicken. Uh oh. I might be in trouble here.

Okay. I'm off to attempt sleep again. Good night to all and to all a good night.
