After much hellishness at work (one person out with bronchitis, another with a collapsed lung), I finally made it to see the movie Mirrormask last night. I had been waiting to see this film for months and months and months!

My spoiler-free opinion?

It was a stunning film to watch because the visuals were so cracked out. Actually, the story was kind of cracked out too. I enjoyed getting lost in it, looking at all the art. And the lone musical number in the film was completely errie so naturally, I loved it! The Jim Henson Company did a beautiful, creepy job. I had no idea that they did digital work in addition to muppetry. The movie was directed at kids, but I think if I saw it as a little kid it would scare the crap out of me because everything looks so strange. Kind of like in the way Dark Crystal and Labyrinth scared me as a child but at the same time became two of my favorite films from my childhood that I can still appreciate fully today. I think that in some ways the dark feel of the film was what I was hoping for/expecting from Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. Dave McKean's art and direction evoked that feeling of a mysterious alien world that scares you but that you still desperately want to visit. For an idea of what the hell I'm talking about, you can visit the film's website right here. Neil Gaiman's script also included some fantastic bits of humor. I definitely recommend seeing this film. If you can, see it on the big screen so that you can immerse yourself in it.

Other movies I wanna see:
Everything is Illuminated
Walk the Line
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Jarhead
Shopgirl
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
Elizabethtown
Prime
March of the Penguins
Crap. That's a lot of movies. I guess it's a good thing that I have access to free movie passes. ;-) Hooray for work bonuses.

Let's see... what else? I got a haircut yesterday. It was about time. I was suffering from the traumatic symptoms of "Pyramid Head."

Also, Coldplay is coming to Louisville! February 23rd at Freedom Hall with Fiona Apple(yuck). Tickets go on sale this Saturday. I am so there!

Wow. Lately my LJ has been full of reviews. Interesting... What does that say about me I wonder.
