i heart art

went to cincinnati today. ate lunch at a fancy restaurant. shopped at Saks where i bought Kiehl's skin and hair products, then went to the new Contemporary Art Center. incredible building. not so incredible museum. best part was the children's floor.

there were a few individual pieces that were incredible. got to see a Maurizio Cattelan piece. the pigeon one. they also had a small section devoted to the Guerrilla Girls. on the whole however, the two main exhibits were very very weak. i understood what they were trying to do with both exhibits but thought they failed miserably in bringing their points across. the social justice exhibit was far too random and what they called a minimalist show was only minimal in that it was of minimal value and organization. and contained way too little art. i actually said to Minda at one point that they needed a better curator. i felt as though i could have organized a better exhibit. later in the museum shop, i asked if by any chance the museum was hiring at all. the girl who was working said to check the website for a full listing, but that she knew they were looking for a senior curator. that explains a lot. i so called it.

all in all i had a very good time though. i hadn't been to any art museums in a while so it felt good to stretch the old art history BA muscles.

speaking of art, I am attempting to assemble my halloween costume. i want to be a portrait. specifically: Girl with a Pearl Earring by Vermeer. if i can pull it off, it should be a lot of fun.

halloween, art
