Reasons to Celebrate

Last night we celebrated Michelle's birthday and Sally's moving to California. It was a great night with lots of old friends. We ate Rojo for dinner. The birthday girl was all decked out in her birthday crown and glowstick jewelry (the excuse for them being . . . so we wouldn't lose her later in the bar). There were balloons and cupcakes too - everything one should have for a smashing birthday party. Oh, and the cupcakes had Barbie crown-shaped rings for us all to wear (five-pointed of course). At the Kudu they had actually made them professional-looking banners for the celebration. Michelle's said something along the lines of "finally" turning legal, and Sally's was a "you'll be missed". It was a great time. My philosophy is one can never go dancing enough, and it was all-the-more fun with everyone there together and in the spirit of things.

The rest of the weekend, I went to 2 crafty shows. The Bluff Park Art show was Saturday. I couldn't really afford any of the art, but told myself I could buy one piece as long as it was just perfect (running out of wall space is a problem as well). Here's my problem with art shows: I love to wander around and get ideas, but justify not buying anything that I think I could paint myself. This is a problem because I have neither the time or the memory of how the painting was painted when it comes right down to picking up the paintbrush and recreating it. Alas, I came home with a pair of earrings. I guess they could be considered art . . .

Homestead Hollow was today. Did you know that exits around the Springville area are few and far between? We found this out the hard way by trying to avoid traffic and going on a short-cut. That short cut ended up extending our trip by 30 minutes because there were no freaking signs like there have been in previous years. Ugh. So we were back on the highway moving farther and farther away from our intended destination and couldn't find an exit for another 15 miles! Mom got stressed out so I took over driving - which I told her was not going to happen (the driving part) today after last night. We somehow made it and the weather was perfect so I'm going to try and not complain any more about our little detour. I did come home with a Christmas present for George and a cute-looking turkey made out of a gourd. It sounds a little country-Christmas, which I'm usually not into, but I am lacking in the Thanksgiving decoration area and Cooper was just the thing!
