Okay.

*deep breath*

Okay.

I don't know if you know this about me, but I suspect that I may be a wizard.

Now, for those of you who haven't read The Dresden Files, you're probably looking at me like, "o_O".  Those of you who have read it know that wizards and technology are incompatible, and the more advanced the tech the quicker it's likely to break.  This bit of information is what has led me to suspect for some time that I may, in fact, possess latent magical powers.  The fact that they refuse to manifest is a source of constant frustration to me, but at least I can be relatively sure they're there.  It would certainly explain why THE FANCY NEW COMPUTER THAT I BOUGHT TWO DAYS AGO IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY.

I would think.

I have an appointment at 5 p.m. at the Apple store forty minutes away because that's the closest one in this godforsaken wasteland of an area in which I live.  I suspect, however, that it may well be an issue with my apartment, because as I am sitting here in a cafe, the battery is charging just fine.  FML.  Is that going to stop me from driving forty minutes there and back just in case?

No.  No, it is not.

This is just the latest in a string of annoyances today, including having to physically drag my damn cat out from under the bed in order to give him his medicine, and I can feel myself slipping into a Sneaky Hate Spiral even as I sit here.

I console myself with the fact that when I return, I will be heading to my friend's BBQ and consuming copious amounts of homemade hard cider and blood orange wine.

RAEG.

UPDATE: Well, the good news is that my computer is fine, my outlets are fine, everything's fine.  The bad news is that it took approximately a minute and a half for the guy at the Apple store to tell me that, without even having to look at my computer, and it is a FORTY-MINUTE DRIVE THERE AND A FORTY-MINUTE DRIVE BACK. *repeated headdesk*

Once he found out that I had driven all that way after speaking with someone in tech support who really should have known that, however, the guy did--in what seemed like a desperate attempt to make me feel like I hadn't driven all that way for absolutely nothing, tell me that I should let the battery run all the way down every couple of weeks so that it can "recalibrate" or some shit and give me longer overall battery life.

So there you go.  If you own a Macbook Pro (or possibly any Mac, or possibly any computer, it was unclear), let the power run down every couple of weeks.  That's a bit of free advice from me to you.  And you didn't even have to drive forty minutes for it.

ffs
