details ...

May 08, 2005 23:06

That's what Jamey says everytime something at work screws up. "It's all just details..." Well a couple of those "details" means that one of my jobs -- a rather large job at that -- has to be reprinted. Which absolutely sucks coming right at my 1 year evalutaion time.

And Jezebel, who is becoming more and more emotionally high maintenance, has decided that her favorite place to be when I'm at the computer is sitting on the keyboard ... to make it easier to pet her, of course. Sigh. But she is a good cat, and only takes up about 1/3 of my bed, which is really good for a cat. And I suppose I can now blame all of my typoes and misspellings on her ... unless, of course, the misspelling was intentional and you weren't included on the joke (cough, Tom). But mostly she just sits on the number pad and the mouse.

My weekend: back to front:

I saw my grandmother in the hospital today. There's a really really strong chance that this will be the last time I ever see her. She's really bad off, and things aren't looking good. Death is never easy, but I'm especially not looking forward to this.

Before that: I had my lesson. Topper is off the DL but his month long vacation made him fat and lazy. We argued about whether or not he would pick up the left lead. I won, of course, but he was a pill about it. No hopes for the show in May, but maybe I'll be able to get him ready for the show in June ... he was pretty collected, and he gave me some nice canters (not always on the correct lead) when I asked. So there's hope.

Yesterday: Was great. I hiked 10 miles on the Approach Trail to the AT (Appalachian Trail). 5 in and 5 out. We didn't do the 2 miles into the valley and up Springer Mountain. My feet were hating me when I got home last night, and my knee was aching. Very worried about that. But when I woke up this morning, it was fine, and it gave me no trouble during my lesson. I'm really glad that I'll be able to tell Peace Corps that it looks like my chronic knee problems won't be so much of a problem. Of course, when it was a problem I was running 2 - 3 miles every morning and rucking 5 miles with about 50lbs of equipment up and down some mad hills.

I decided to escape for a bit and took myself to see Kingdom of Heaven. Oh dear. That was a humorous disappointment. (TOTAL SPOILER) So, Orlie (who is hot, regarless of his lack of acting abilities) plays this blacksmith whose wife has just comitted suicide. SO ... all of a sudden this Baron rides up and says, "Balian, I am your father." Okay, minus the Darth Vader voice, but it was pretty unbelievable. Daddy (played by Liam Neeson) asks him to come Crusading with him, and he can save his wife's soul from hell. But then Daddy dies, and Balian makes his way to the Holy Land by himself, where he magically understands Islamic culture, agriculture, and after 1 brief lesson with a sword, is a military genius capable of commanding armies and defending against seige engines. Oh! And did I mention that he can read? I noticed him going over some parchment just before he sleeps with the Princess ... what about the dead wife's soul? It's screwey. Not that I was expecting an Academy Award Winning Sweep, but I did expect a little better from Ridley Scott.

Friday: I got to see Tony again! I can't believe he's 2 months old already ... and he really looks like this weird combination of Xan and Alex ... I know, I know ... duh. But really, he looks like both of them! I wonder if I looked like both of my parents when I was a baby. Weird thought. Xan and I took Tony over to Helen to meet with Erin and her family. We ate at an "Authentic Mexican" restaurant in a "Bavarian" tourist trap. OMG ... I was ethnically confused by the end of the evening.

AND got my fingerprints taken for Peace Corps. Much cleaner than the last time ... they do it digitally now, so there's no ink. Very cool. But some of the places around here are rediculous about it. For example: I called Coweta Sherriff's Dept. and they ONLY do it between 9 - 10 am, 3 - 4 pm, and every Friday and Saturday after 9 (pm) ??? I don't know. Cobb Sherriff was much more obliging.

15 days and counting until my Peace Corps interview.
